Spokesperson for SuperSport, Ray Moore, said the premium nature of the existing content and additional new services being rolled out meant that the site would become available only to subscribers of DStv and MNet.
"We will be implementing several new personalised services for subscribers to create an even better online sports experience. This will be done in a phased approach to allow simple and easy integration.
"As with any media business, the cost of purchasing the content, writing the various news elements and managing the operation is very high. In addition, the technology costs for delivering these webpages free to all Internet users are substantial. Making the site available only to subscribers is in line with our policy of providing premium content and experience to all our subscribers."
"We want to ensure that our television subscribers are kept updated on all the sports results, logs and fixtures wherever they are, so for this reason all DStv and MNet subscribers will have free access to the SuperSport Zone.
