Durban - ANC demonstrators took to the streets of Durban on Monday calling for a re-run of the party's KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Electoral Conference (PEC) that was held last week.
The supporters rallied behind KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu, who they said should have won the elective conference.
Sihle Zikalala defeated Mchunu to become the chairman of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.
The crowd of around 200 people marched from the Workshop shopping centre in the CBD to the ANC offices in Stalwart Simelane Street.
When News24 attempted to speak to some supporters, many said party protocol did not allow them to do so.
One demonstrator who did not want to be named said supporters were afraid of being discriminated against.
"We are here to show support. But we cannot go against what we are being told to do. We support Senzo. We just want to see him on top."
Receiving the memorandum of demands, ANC National Executive Committee member Joe Phaahla said the party would listen to the demonstrators' concerns, but said internal party discussion would have been preferable.
"As the ANC we prefer these concerns to follow an internal process. We will take these demands to national level and hand it to comrade ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe. He will look into these concerns."
Phaahla said that while the PEC had been declared free and fair, "the door is never closed to our members".
"We will listen to their concerns."
