Rising sprinter Lucky Moleyane (17), a learner of Grey College in Bloemfontein, has been chosen as the SuperSport Let’s Play Sport Star of the Month for Express.
He is the winner for February for achievements in the 100 m and 200 m athletic events, respectively.
Lucky’s performance saw him improve his 200 m record finishing in 21.51 at the Grey College athletics meeting in January.
His performance saw him also surpassing the previous record of 21.90 in the 200 m set by Lourens Oelschig in 1997.
He also improved his record in the 100 m after he clocked 10.57 at the Free State Schools interdistrict Motheo and Xhariep meetings held in Bloemfontein last month. Lucky is the current reigning 2020 Free State Inter High athletics champion for his performance in the sprinting events. He is the record holder in the 100 m (10.46) and 200 m (20.98) boys u.18 age group.
The latest achievement sees him continuing his winning reputation from 2019.
Last year Lucky set a new record for Grey College in the 200 m in 21.49. The previous record of 22.10 was set by sprinters Ian Small-Smith and Pierre Swart. This record stood for 36-years.
