Naspers is bringing much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies to frontline healthcare workers in our country. This is part of its R1,5bn commitment to help South Africa fight this pandemic, and is made possible through long-standing partnerships and relationships with Tencent and the Chinese government. Naspers’s first shipment of PPE emergency aid arrived at O.R. Tambo International Airport on Monday, 20 April.

On Tuesday, Naspers received about six million masks and it has a further delivery scheduled to arrive on 2 May, bringing the total delivery of PPE units to 13.2 million. Through Takealot’s extensive distribution network, this critical PPE will be delivered to hospitals, identified by the Department of Health, across the country. Naspers believes this collaboration will make a difference in South Africa’s response to COVID-19.

Naspers’s donation comprises R1 billion in PPE equipment and R500 million emergency to the Solidarity Response Fund is emergency aid, with no conditions attached.
