Apple complains about grocery site

Warsaw - Apple, fresh from a patent victory against South Korean rival Samsung in the US, has turned its sights on a smaller target - Polish online grocery website

The Polish patent office said on Tuesday the US maker of the iPad, iPhone and iPod had filed a complaint, accusing the website of copying one of Apple's icons to its logo and riding its coattails to win customers.

"Apple brand is widely recognised and the company says that, by using the name that sounds similar, is using Apple's reputation," patent office spokesperson Adam Taukert said.

"The accusation is ludicrous," said chief executive Radoslaw Celinski.

The firm, which is not currently using the logo in question, is looking at Apple's complaint.

A date for an official hearing has not been set yet.

The law firm Baker & McKenzie, which represents Apple in Poland, was not available to comment. Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone on Wednesday.

hahaha!! I personally can't wait to the demise of Apple..They have simply got to big and arrogant. Apple has become what Microsoft was in the 90's.... wait and see how the tall always falls!!

At this rate I'll be too scared to even bite into the fruit called an @pp!€! I can't afford a lawsuit against me...

Wow! I'm starting to see NOW only why it's called the forbidden fruit!

Beware of people with apple stickers on there cars and other things non apple. Apple is going to sue you!

      lydonmcg - 2012-09-11 19:05

Yeah...that totally makes sense considering Apple MAKE the stickers.

How they make the jump is beyond me! With Steve Jobs gone (RIP), the company is unlikely to come up with a new idea and has since discovered it is easier in USA to make money by sueing other companies than to be creative. Do they actually have people sitting there trying to justify an inflated salary searching for cases like that. Apart from the obvious name similarity there is nothing else. If you are a greengrocer why not include an apple in your name. See:

It's ironic that the grocery store site has now become much more famous than it ever would have if Apple had not started this lawsuit. And they boost marketing of so many other companies as well doing this.

...and lets not refer to those red fruit things hanging in a tree. God forbid we call it an apple (oops) or we might get sued. Oh wait, with our government maybe there is a name change in store somewhere down the line...

      arthur.hugh - 2012-09-11 17:22

We can call them Frapples. Then, instead of harvesting, we call it "Frapping".

  • arthur.hugh - 2012-09-11 17:17

Talk about Frot Apples! Just looked at the website, I don't see ANYTHING they can sue over.

  • Lee.CPT.ZA - 2012-09-11 20:25

Psst if anyone from Apple is actually monitoring this site here's a tip. There a small town just outside of Cape Town called Ceres. The sell apples cheaper than you can manufacture them for. The surptising thing here is they are called Apple. perhaps you should force them to change the name. Also look at the 1st testament Eve ate an Apple, surely this brings the brand into disrepute. I say sue sue sue!

  • adam.kemp.5851 - 2012-09-11 22:26

I'm surprised Audi hasn't sued Samsung over the use of their S3 yet. Oh wait... of course... Apple again!

  • shooshyu.tu - 2012-09-12 08:13

    Another rotten apple.

  • cj.venter - 2012-09-12 09:14

apple stole their name from the bible in genesis, some priest should sue them for every cent they own, lol.
