Cape Town - This week's Cabinet lekgotla has agreed to a new strategic integrated project (SIP) on water and sanitation, Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Collins Chabane said on Friday.

The project was aimed at addressing the country's immediate and long-term water and sanitation needs, he told reporters in Pretoria and at Parliament.

"It called on all spheres of government to strengthen implementation and enhance the localisation programme for components and supplies of infrastructure inputs."

Projects that supported regional integration would receive special attention, Chabane said.

Actually part of it gives the municipalities the right to charge you for any gray water you may use, this includes rain water collection systems you may install at your own cost.

Will the cabinet please go SIP on water after Shell has contaminated it with their frickin' fracking?

Funny DWA has no idea what you are talking about. Amazing too that cabnet is ignoring the potential national water saving through the use of RWH.

Immediate and long-term water and sanitation needs? In light of this fracking thing it makes me mad - such a precious resource.

If its not a working group its a committee, if its not a project its a commission and so on and so on; they don't get any further than that! they talk the talk but are not able to walk the walk.. will somebody tell me where all this is going to end?

When are this bunch of incompetents, and the layers responsible for implementation, going to realise that they are nothing but incompetent? After almost 20 years of fiddling (take it anyway you want) they are going to fiddle some more. Bring in competent people, if you cannot find them in SA bring in overseas competent contractors. Focus on getting things working and keeping them working not your own comfort zones!
