Chrome browser challenges Firefox

San Francisco - Google's Chrome Web browser is gaining ground on Firefox and according to one industry tracker may even have eclipsed its open-source rival in the global market.

Chrome was the world's second favourite web browsing programme in November, bumping Firefox from that position for the first month ever, according to StatCounter Global Stats.

Google's Chrome had a 25.69% share of online browsing last month compared to 25.23% for Firefox, according to StatCounter.

Firefox is managed by the non profit Mozilla Foundation.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) remained the dominant web browser with 40.63% of the global market, the findings indicated.

"We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally," said StatCounter chief executive Aodhan Cullen.

Love firefox. Had some compatibility issues with avast anti virus after the latest upgrade.

Have switched from FF to Chrome since they added status info and (mostly) fixed automatic tiling ability with other open windows. Still some compatibility issues with certain apps and uploading/downloading to/from FTP sites needs to be fixed. Otherwise the speed and minimalist interface do it for me!

Chrome is good, but doesn't have the add ons of Firefox that I rely heavily upon. I would say Chrome is the better option for the majority of surfers though.

The only thing standing in the way of Chrome kicking IE's @$$ is ignorance... as a web user and designer, I hope IE goes down in flames!

Down with IE and down with all the morons still using it!!!

Microsoft Internet Explorer is not the biggest: I also run a few websites and the visitor stats on my sites agree with the ones from Wikipedia. Strange.
