Electric cars recalled in US

Detroit - Luxury electric-car maker Fisker Automotive says it is recalling the Karma sedan to fix cooling fans that can catch fire.

The recall follows the company's probe into a fire on 10 August in Woodside, California. The company says the fire had nothing to do with the car's lithium-ion battery.

The company says the cooling fans will be replaced and another fuse installed for added protection. Dealers will contact customers.

The Karma costs $100 000 and can go 48 to 64km on battery power. It has a backup gas engine if the battery gets depleted. Fisker has sold just over 1 000 since last fall.

Fisker has received loan money from the US government to develop its cars.
