Cape Town - Fresh from an injection of Google capital, Motorola has launched a new smartphone in South Africa.

The new RAZR was launched in Sandton on Thursday, in time for the traditional Christmas shopping season.

The device features the Android operating system, a 10cm (4.3 inch) screen, 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

The original RAZR was a successful brand in South Africa and the new one will attempt to recapture some of the glory of the past.

To differentiate the device from a host of Android-powered smartphones, Motorola has included an ecosystem of accessories.

The RAZR has a recommended retail price of R6 999 and will be available on contract from Vodacom at R269 per month.

Here's a YouTube video of the launch:

Eish, R6 999-00 for a motorola. Sorry, the OS they are shipping with is supposed to be open source, so are you telling me that that hardware is worth more than an iPad with 3G. I don't think so!

Its probably the stores like Incredible Deception that are boosting up the price. c

Umm. Yes it IS worth more cause it does more than the iPad with 3G. Clearly you have not seen / worked / used / had a modern smartphone device. Now if we talk about this compared to an iPad2 or iPad3, the comparison is somewhat fairer but to the iPad with 3G.. no contest.
