Nasa extends Kepler mission

Moffett Field - Nasa has decided to keep its planet-hunting spacecraft running for several more years.

The space agency said the Kepler spacecraft will search for alien worlds through fiscal year 2016. The $600m mission was launched in 2009 to track down other Earths in a faraway patch of the Milky Way galaxy.

The extension came after a team of experts reviewed the project's progress. It is estimated to cost about $18m a year to operate Kepler in the extended phase.

Kepler has found examples of planets similar in size to Earth orbiting stars outside the solar system.

Scientists are eagerly waiting the discovery of an Earth-size world in the so-called Goldilocks zone - a place that's not too hot, not too cold, where water might exist in liquid form.

Stop wasting you money..the only other life out there is the God of the Universe who created this one.

      Carl - 2012-04-05 14:01

not necessarily...God is a God of life...quite possible that it exists elsewhere in the universe

If there is other life in the universe God created it. If that is the case then why not try to find it, why not see the universe as God intended it? Please do not be so narrow as to see things as excluded, eventhough nowhere in the bible it state that there is only life on earth. Enjoy the universe. I do believe in evolution and I believe it is a process that is guided by God, but the people who limit themselves by saying things are not because they think they heard someone say it who read it in the bible somewhere are making believers seem closed minded and not open to the world.

If everyone thought the way you do, we would all still be living in caves...oh wait, you don't believe in that sorta thing. Let me guess, you also believe that God PUT dinosaur bones and fossils there to test us???

      QuintSch - 2012-04-05 13:51

Ivan - you make ridiculous statements that are laughable at most and are straw-man arguments that the anti-God establishment use to try discredit creationists/theists, but you only end up making yourself look stupid. Creationists/Christians believe and know that the fossil record was laid down approximately 4400 years ago in a global catastrophic flood, as is described in the Bible. This not only makes more sense scientifically but can and has been tested (large tanks with flowing water, dirt and debris depositing everything in layers). Even a natural disaster like Mt St Helens in Washington displays that the creation explanations are far more consistent with science than evolutionary hypotheses.

Quinton, unfortunately that's a religion twisting facts to legitimize itself, and in the process making a fool of the religion. Not to say that God doesn't exist, and didn't create our universe.

Go ahead! Find out is a MUST!

Only a fool claims to know what he doesn't and then wears it like a badge of honour. News flash the year 2112, the last three god believers found in cave in the South Pacific.
