Next BlackBerry won't have keyboard

Toronto - The first BlackBerry device running Research In Motion's new software will not have a physical keyboard.

Instead, it will have only a touch-screen keyboard.

Research in Motion spokesperson Rebecca Freiburger said on Thursday that the new BlackBerry 10 software will be offered on devices with physical keyboards in the future, but she declined to say when

RIM's touch-screen offerings have largely flopped. The development will likely disappoint people who favour the keyboard over the touch screen and who have been waiting for the much-delayed new BlackBerrys.

RIM's hopes hang on BlackBerry 10, which is meant to offer the multimedia, internet browsing and apps experience customers now demand.

RIM is preparing to launch the new software later this year, just as North Americans are abandoning BlackBerrys for iPhones and Android devices.

With RIM putting themselves on the market why would anyone sign a 2 year Blackberry contract? Most likely would be bought by Microsoft which means Biz services would form part of Windows Phone and Blackberry OS will die...

BB will still be a pathetic excuse of a phone! The only thing making it sell is the whole bis/bbm thing. I've owned in the past a Samsung, and now usean iPhone, I had someone with a BB so I'd use it regularly. It's such a frustrating phone and it takes long to get where u wanna be, and I don't even wanna talk abt using its browser...snail. Someone like me I'd never buy a BB, cos its just for bbm, and honestly speaking I just know maybe 5 people who aren't family and my family's into Apple, and none of those 5 people own a BB anyway!

iPhones are superior in every way. Brilliant touch screen, brilliant apps, brilliant OS. Siri is wonderful, imessage allows free sms's between iPhones and Facetime allows free video calls between iPhones and other Apple computers. When IOS 5 comes out Facetime will use your network for FREE video calls. Can a BB match that? Maybe not.
