RIM announces new BlackBerry Bold

New York - Research In Motion is releasing a new version of one of its high-end BlackBerrys, updating the Bold with a touch screen and fresh software.

T-Mobile USA says it will carry the BlackBerry Bold 9900 later this year.

Research in Motion Ltd is under pressure to update its high-end phones as it's losing out to iPhones and phones running Google's Android software.

Last week, the company cut its earnings and sales forecasts for the current quarter, saying it's selling fewer and cheaper phones than expected. Its stock plummeted.

Like the original Bold, launched in 2008, the 9900 has a keyboard under a 7.1cm screen in landscape orientation. It's thinner than before, at just 10.5mm, making it the thinnest BlackBerry yet.

i guess ure one of those pricks that scorn upon stuff u can't understand...iPhones are smart phones for smart people....way better than the outdated blackberries and bug-riddled android phones

Dude 80% of the iPhone features dont work in SA, if you lived in the US the phone is probbably beter than the BB but in SA it cant compete

@zolani, have u used the iphone before? what features are those ? u sound like all the people that read online reviews and believe they know the device. try the phone for a couple of days, ull be impressed. it does eveything a blackberry can do but just better

An Iphone is not an Enterprise Networking product/Wireless device. I have nothing against the iphone but it just cant compete in the enterprise arena. It doesn't have ANY wireless diagnostic features which is important in our IT sector. What good is it having a phone that cant even ping an IP?

i have the iPhone 4 and BlackBerry 9700, and honestly, i much prefer the iphone, the only reason i have the blackberry was i did not try the iphone before, if i could getr out of my contract with the blackberry today i would!

Just get an Android phone ( a few to choose from too ) and all things come to light!

The difference between the iphone and the BB is purpose. If you want to play games and have lots of apps, and like to fool around with those apps on a smartphone go for the iphone. If you want a business phone that handles your calls and e-mails the best, has an enterprise connection to scyn your work diary and ensure you get to appointments on time, then the BB is your choice. The BB is not the "pretty" phone, it is a business tool.
