Samsung 'must halt Galaxy sales'

San Francisco - A judge is ordering Samsung Electronics Company to halt sales of its Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer while the court considers Apple's patent infringement claims.

US District Judge Lucy Koh late on Tuesday said Apple Inc's lawsuit appears likely to succeed.

Apple claims Samsung's computer tablet copied patents used to design Apple's popular iPads. Koh earlier said the two products are "virtually indistinguishable".

Koh ordered Apple to post a $2.6m bond in case it ultimately loses.

The ruling is a small part of a much larger patent battle between the two tech giants that's scheduled for trial next month in San Jose. Apple accuses the South Korean company of infringing patents related to the iPhone.

Samsung representatives didn't immediately respond to email request for comment late on Tuesday.

So Samsung is leading the sales of the tablet and the only thing Apple can do is sue? Steve must be doing cartwheels in his grave! Get a life, Apple!!

Debra, what you're saying... the opposite is true. Geez. Apple leads in the Tablet and Smartphone market. Read the sales figures for yourself. Really. Do that. Kthanksbye.

Perhaps you should read. Samsung has sold more smartphones that fruit and veg.

No Keenan, they only lead the tablet market. Guess you should read those sales figures more carefully.

Everyone forgets that Microsoft invented the tablet PC. Hell, you could even buy a tablet-friendly version of Windows XP.

We have been supporting apple products for years now in SA but they still don't allow us to buy Music or Movies from the ITUNES store !!!!!!!!! Middle finger to them.

      PatPion - 2012-06-27 10:08

It's not difficult to create a US account from here and buy vouchers to buy music and movies from the US iTunes store. (It does work out to be a bit more expensive to buy vouchers, though)

Until Apple stops dictating to consumers how we upload files to OUR devices that WE paid for they can go fly a kite, I currently use an iphone but will fefinately be going Android next time because of Apple's arrogance. If I want to dump files onto my device like it was a flash drive or bluetooth a file to my friend then you the supplier will listen to me or loose a customer, finish and klaar!

I highly doubt many of the posters here have actually compared the devices in question first hand before passing judgment here now have they? Amazing how people still have opinions when they don’t know what the hell they are talking about. It’s a simple concept really, if you’re allowed to patent your technology you’re allowed to challenge other manufacturers who clearly (as Samsung have done in this instance) infringe on your patent. And no, I don’t use Apple products. I have no personal beef with either company; I’m just stating the facts. Samsung will lose this one, the galaxy tab features the same shape, look, feel and menu structure of the Apple product, it’s blatant for crying out loud! I guess the only real question would be, should they be allowed to hold these sorts of patents in the first place?
