Table Mountain a New7Wonder of Nature

2011-11-11 21:28

Cape Town - Table Mountain has been confirmed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature after the first count of the global vote was announced on Friday.

Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Komodo, and Puerto Princesa Underground River are the other six Wonders of Nature.

The results announced are provisional and based on the first count of votes completed since voting ended at 11:11 GMT.

The results will now be checked, validated and independently verified, a statement from New7Wonders says.

Once the voting validation process is completed, in early 2012, New7Wonders will then work with the confirmed winners to organise the Official Inauguration events, says the statement.

South Africa is a wonderful place. Now if only South Africans could follow suit, collectively.

Well said Tammy we should ALL work as a unit to put ourselves on the top because we have it all we just need to know how to work with what we have.

How are we confirmed, if the votes are not validated yet? If we are confirmed, surely it means it's final? Please get your reporting in order...

      Marion - 2011-11-12 09:44

LOL Jaco... my thoughts exactly when I read that but when I researched I found the FINAL results will only be released in 2012 and if they counted wrong we could still be knocked off our perch.

Why is the voting validation process only going to be finalised in early 2012? Please do not disappoint us. THe Great Barrier Reef and THe Grand Canyon are are also worthy contenders. Well done to all who voted for Table Mountain.

  • sadiemy - 2011-11-11 21:47

Watching the cricket at Newlands today I was just so awed by the presence of that beautiful mountain as a backdrop. No wonder Australia fell apart in her brooding presence....

  • mike.miga - 2011-11-11 21:51

Congrats Table u can now smile & put on yr cloth

  • Philip - 2011-11-11 21:55

Grand Canyon didn't make the list? Sounds like this is connected to tourism and money as opposed to just some random independent review

  • michelle.e.magson - 2011-11-11 22:22

good news for us ... but wondering how the great barrier reef failed to contend ... i guess the aussies suck at voting too!

      hennie.wolmarans - 2011-11-11 23:24

I guess it is all the South Africans living in Aus who voted for the mountain.

  • vivienbru - 2011-11-11 22:48

This is so awesome...Congratulations South Africa!!! Well done and thanks for voting!

  • GerrieSays - 2011-11-11 22:50

I expected the final result to be announced today. Now I've learned the vote will be verified by January 2012. This means the result can still change. In this day and age, how long does it take to verify online results? Or are they testing public opinion again after the initial 'results'? Seems to me as if the voting process has entered yet another phase. Who decides on these wonders after all? Do we know?
