Tumour filled a wheelbarrow, doctors say

2012-10-26 22:25

Berlin - Doctors in Germany said on Friday they had removed a tumour weighing 28kg from a 60-year-old woman who had previously been diagnosed as obese.

A spokesman from the university clinic in the eastern city of Dresden said the woman, Irmtraud Eichler, had made a full recovery after the seven-hour operation and was now able to walk again with crutches.

The so-called "borderline" tumour, measuring 60cm by 50cm, attached itself to an ovary and Eichler began to put on weight at an alarming rate.

Her doctor put the weight gain down to a combination of diabetes and a lack of activity and prescribed a course of anti-obesity medicine.

However, when she could barely stand due to the swelling, her daughter insisted on a second opinion and an ultrasound scan revealed the growing tumour, which was found to be neither benign but not especially malignant either.

The operation removed not only the tumour, but also her uterus, ovaries and thyroid, which had expanded, causing her windpipe to contract and have breathing difficulties.

When removed, the tumour filled a wheelbarrow, the spokesperson said.

Eichler lost a total of 40kg during the operation and described herself as "super happy."

"I cannot thank the doctors enough. I am a new person," she said according to local news agency DPA.

Intelligent design? God being spiteful? Proves beyond all doubt that the religious on this forum - and they are out there watching out anxiously for the unbelievers' comments here - are silly in their beliefs. They should take that little extra step by googling "birth defects". See how god can get it so wrong.

      yar.wellnofine - 2012-10-27 06:33

@Cracked A tumour is not proof of anything other than a tumour. You need to get help with this atheist affliction that you have. Your logic is deeply flawed.

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-27 11:54

Intelligent design would not have allowed tumours to develope. What exsactly went wrong. Google birth defects. It gets a lot worse. Argue against it? Or is god spiteful?

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-27 12:51

@ yar.wellnofine How come yar? Intelligent Design should not permit the development of turmours. You know what a tumor is? Uncontrolled cell growth. Which should not be possible if the Intelligent Designer did his design properly. Seems quite logical.

      yar.wellnofine - 2012-10-27 14:45

@Cracked Nothing to do with intelligent design. That's why God invented evolution.

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-27 15:16

@ yar.wellnofine God invented evolution? God actually applies evolution? Are you relying on the bible for your assertions? If you do I will have to once again here paste the creation event as reflected in Gen 2 18-24. No room for evolution there. Adam watches the whole process as god gets it all wrong - thinking that some animal or bird may just do fine as a sex (procreation) mate for Adam. Now Adam is watching all the creation activities taking place and comments on god's eventual success in creating Eve - out of Adam's rib. Are you serious? That's evolution? Let's get real.

@ Cracker: I am not going to argue with you. You obviously know what is written in the Word of God. You cannot claim not to have known better. When you read Genesis again, plz do read about the fall of man, and woman, and hence the authority transferred from man to satan. With that came the inevitable that man would no longer live in God's garden, will have to work for what they need, face troubles and trepidation. Man would now face death in the flesh - either through violence, illness or other. Jesus came to this earth to provide God's Door to eternal life. The beauty is that God does not force you to follow Him, to accept Christ...you have a choice. We make choices throughout our life, other ppl make choices, the factories and our want to revolutionalise everything...you name it, have impacted on our lives and health over the millennia. We cannot do as we please and then have the audacity to question or blame God, or worse, mock Him for it. He will not stand for you or anyone else mocking Him. Have a look in history what happened to those who mocked Him. And by the way, no matter how well intended, to those claiming God invented evolution...you have a choice between The Truth and the new age truth.

Wally - most people in the world (some of them Christians) don't believe in Adam and Eve based on the conclusions resulting from scientific disciplines such as Anthropology, Paleontology, Archeology, and Biology. What's wrong with you? Still believe like a child? If one is to stipulate that Adam and Eve were specially created as adults, then the Christian has to explain what the other Homo erectus and Homo neanderthalensis fossils are. Adam and Eve were supposed to be the first, but there sure are a lot of old primate bones laying around and we know how human biology reacts when brothers and sisters mate. Its not likely they would have survived, unless the old perpetual miracle was going on. To lump in the homo erectus and Neanderthals into the animals that Adam named doesn't make sense either because there is evidence of Neanderthal ritual, which signifies intelligence.

      eddy.deepfield - 2012-10-28 00:05

Wally - I ask you, how were Adam and Eve created? In one account they are created male and female, and apparently at the same time. In the next account, Adam is made first, and Eve a long time afterwards, and from a part of the man. Did God simply by his creative power cause a rib slowly to expand, grow and divide into nerve, ligament, cartilage and flesh? How was the woman created from a rib? How was man created simply from dust?

Get out of the Bermuda Triangle, this is medically interest.Stick too the article,or go and find a church,or a bar to settle you differences.

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-28 10:32

@ Wally You know what, I have been through it all. Don't lie to people! People are being led by the nose by the believers who ignore/twist/spin some of the clearest language in the bible. But I would like to once again inform (as I have already done on this forum) that the account of the so-called fall did not inlude satan at all. Later writers invented satan and connected it with the clearly manmade myth. Show where in Gen 3 is satan mentioned. It was a wild animal. Satan does not sail about on its belly and satin does not eat dust. Nor does satan procreate. These were god's curse. Should I go on? You are a sucker for the propaganda of your church or belief system.

Crracker, you need Jesus in your live.

I don't know why she is so grateful to the doctors. It sounds to me as though she was misdiagnosed for months, and suffered badly because of incompetence of 1st world medicine. How did they 'miss' a tumour of this size?

  • masiagwala.a.mukololo - 2012-10-27 18:31

    god is great

      johan.jacobs.5680 - 2012-10-28 11:39

With all respect so was the tumour, and the surgeons.

  • crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-28 10:38

@ johan.jacobs.5680 No, it is not only of medical interest. This forum is for all to read. I and others are at liberty to weave belief systems into the topic. All relevant. You really don't have to read it.

      johan.jacobs.5680 - 2012-10-28 11:36

I fully agree,it's for everyone's opinion on the subject.

  • crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-28 17:53

@ lara.vanrooyen.1 Please don't attempt some exaggerated cleverness on behalf of your religion by stating that I (or anybody else, for that matter) need Jesus in my life. I'll tell you why. You see, the conversion methods in Christian religious history have been quite brutal. Jesus (god) clearly could not stand on their own two feet - yes! god wandered around in the Garden of Eden in the cool of day (all there in the bible)- so Jesus and god relied on forced conversion. Google to see how the Roman Catholic clergy enforced their belief system. Not only in Europe but in the New World. Burning shrieking and probably never even heard before screams by animals being burned alive to impress the locals of how they would scream and shout and shriek and forever suffer in the afterlife if they didn't convert. If you have ANY evidence to the contrary of the conversion methods, please, this forum is yours to raise it. Until then just be a bit more honest. Now go and read up a bit more on Calvin and Martin Luther. See for yourself how the so-called reformers behaved and what they believed and stood for. Bear in mind that Luther thought satan had taken residence in his (Luther's) intestines. Uncomfortable with what I say? But bear in mind the horrible misery the belief system has caused to so many. Far worse than the comfort or discomfort some of you can ever imagine. I will be watching this particular item to see if you have more of your silliness to add.

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-28 20:29

And so the believers are once again on the backfoot? Or are they? But then why no rebuttals from them here? That is the dishonesty about them that needs to be hightlighted on this forum.
