2012-10-22 12:18

Cape Town – Vodacom has offered customers the cheapest rate in South Africa to make calls at anytime to 52 international destinations from their cellphone for only 89 cents per minute.

This promotion will run from 21 October to 31 December 2012.

Calls made at the promotional rate are also charged on a per second basis from the first second.

To sign up for this promotion all customers can dial *111#; or contract customers can SMS ‘World’ to 123 while Prepaid and Top Up customers can SMS ‘World’ to 100."

A Vodacom spokesperson told News24 it's too early to comment on the uptake of the promotion since the promotion only launched on Sunday.

Vodacom also didn't want to comment if the promotion would run annually.

"It’s too early to say. We always review our promotions and look for ways of providing attractive value offers which will make it even more affordable for our customers to stay in touch with family and friends," the spokesperson said.

A R5 monthly fee will be charged to opt-in to this promotional rate.

You can opt out of the promotion at any time by dialing *111#.

That is a very DUMB promotion, First of we here in SA are paying much more for local calls , whats the use making international calls cheaper ? we need cheaper calls here in SA

Yes, truly dumb. With a computer you can Skype people overseas for nothing, or to their phones for far cheaper than Vodacom's pathetic promotion.

these new pricing and products are pathetic .. makes one wonder , how many years exactly were consumers getting ripped off.... really sad that these services were made for the middle and higher income markets, and now it appears that the lower end of the market , like prepaid are getthing alot more than contract customers in terms of value.. They cant beat that gap!!
