Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma on Sunday congratulated South Africa on the success of hosting the UN Climate Change conference in Durban.

"The outcome in Durban is a coup for Africa. Issues that had taken so long to resolve have been resolved on our soil," Zuma said in a statement.

"We are very happy and proud of the South African team that worked so hard with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to make Durban succeed (UNFCCC)," he said.

The COP 17 conference had made resolutions, among others, to pledge money to start-up the Green Climate Fund which would help developing nations in their efforts to create clean energy in the future.

The conference also resulted in the launch of a roadmap towards a global climate accord that will, for the first time, include all major emitters of greenhouse gases.

Zuma congratulated COP 17 President, International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa on an "outstanding achievement".

Nice one JZ, after solving the world's climate change issues do you reckon you and your team can have a word with the Joburg metro to clean up our rivers from all sorts of rubbish and vagrants? (should take you a few minutes or must we have an imbazio at Radison blu for a week)?
