iPad Mini price revealed - report

2012-10-16 09:39

Cape Town – Apple has not yet even acknowledged the existence of the iPad Mini, but pricing and configuration information for the much-rumored tablet is allegedly already appearing in the inventory system of a consumer electronics giant.

The page, in German, lists pricing for various configurations in euros, presumably with Europe's 19% value-added tax already factored into the price. Prices will start at €249 (approximately R2 000) for a Wi-Fi-only 8GB iPad Mini.

Apple is expected to take the wraps off its highly anticipated mini iPad at a 23 October invitation-only event, reported tech blog AllThingsD, citing sources familiar with the company.

The event would come before Microsoft unveils its latest operating system, Windows 8, and its new Surface tablet on 26 October.

Speculation has been swirling for months that Apple was planning a smaller, less expensive version of its popular iPad to take on cheaper competing devices.

€249 is closer to R3000, not R2000. Why would anyone want to buy a 7-inch iWhatever for R3000 when you can get a top class 10-inch Android pad (e.g. ZTPad) for half that? One reason only: too much money and too little intelligence.

for the same reason I prefer having an original oil painting on my wall to a laser photo copy. One is a creative original, the other is a poor rip off. Maybe Stirrer's situation is a case of "not enough money" and too little intelligence...

LOL Rory, it's guys like you I'm talking about. Depends on what you want to do: are you after functionality or windgat value? For functionality an Android device is as good as, even better than, it's Apple counterpart. For windgat value, sorry, there Apple wins hands down.

If you like the Apple, buy the Apple. If you like Android, buy Android. Geez man, be glad that you can choose and that there isn't just one tablet manufacturer *shm*

I too prefer Android, but that is my choice. Apple lovers will always be Apple lovers, so let them be. Android tablets are not a rip-off iPad, they are far superior in most fields. I myself have a Pipo Max M1, running faster than the iPad 2, same screen and Android Jellybean. I bought it for R2300,00 and never go anywhere without it. At least we have choices.
