Cosatu hails new premier

2004-04-22 13:55
Cape Town - The Congress of South African Trade Unions has welcomed the announcement of Ebrahim Rasool as premier designate of the Western Cape.

"Rasool has always stood for working families and that is why Cosatu worked tirelessly for his election," the federation's Western Cape office said in a statement on Thursday.

Cosatu said that though the coalition led by Marthinus van Schalkwyk had improved stability in governance in the province, "real stability and prosperity" would now be achieved.

"Ebrahim Rasool has demonstrated his leadership and commitment to our people over time. Cosatu will do all it can to support him."
