Mandela: SA needs good leaders

Now as much as ever, South Africa needs disciplined leaders, Nelson Mandela has said at birthday celebration in Pretoria.

Johannesburg - Two authorised books based on the life of former president Nelson Mandela have been published in commemoration of his 90th birthday, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said on Monday.

"We are proud to be associated with these two excellent accounts of Mr Mandela's life. In both cases we worked closely with the authors and publishers to ensure accuracy," the foundation's chief executive officer Achmat Dangor said in a statement.

A comic book was published in association by Jonathan Ball Publishers and Umlando Wezithombe, while the second book titled Hunger For Freedom was published by Jacana Publishers.

An official Mandela Birthday messages book would be published later this year.

The Nelson Mandela Colouring Book reported on in the media was not authorised by the foundation, said Dengor.

"If the Nelson Mandela Foundation is a partner in a publication project, then it works closely with the author and the publisher and signs off on the content," he added.

"Formal permissions apply only within this framework."
