In the news: Rugby World Cup winning coach

2007 was one of the most eventful and successful years in the history of South African rugby. The man in the spotlight was not a player, but Springbok coach Jake White. The Springboks won the World Cup in France - the number one requirement for any coach. White's side was voted the IRB's Team of the Year, won 14 Tests and ended the year as the No 1 ranked team in the world.

Along the way White was involved in the Luke Watson saga and in an unseemly fight for his job with Saru. The year ended with White still on top with his autobiography breaking records but his Springbok coaching job a thing of the past.
