A six-month-old baby girl tragically died after being hit in the head by a roof fan when her stepfather allegedly played with her and threw her into the air.

The horrific incident took place in the city of Caucete in Argentina and hospital sources report that the girl, named, Giuliana del Valle Sotoyan, died from a blow to her head on Sunday 29 September.

The stepfather, who was identified as Jesus Miche Zalazar (26), reportedly threw her into the air without noticing the roof fan was on.

The fan hit the girl's head and she was then rushed to the Guillermo Rawson hospital where she underwent surgery.

Unfortunately, the girl succumbed to her injuries and died the next morning.

Zalazar has since been arrested.

According to reports, the event occurred during a family gathering.

The case was at first being investigated as an act of negligence, but judge Matias Parron, who’s in charge of the investigation, has changed it to a homicide case.

Aldana, the aunt of the victim, explained to local media that her sister, who’s the child’s mom was cooking at the time of the incident.

“Jesus had the baby and was playing around with her in the living room. Suddenly, I felt a blow on the roof fan and when I looked at it, Jesus had her against his chest with his shirt bloody,” Aldana said.

“I told him, what have you done? And we rushed out to ask for help from a neighbour to go to the hospital.

“He was telling me on the way to the hospital, I did nothing, Aldana, I did nothing”

The case is still under investigation.
