American newlyweds sadly died in a car accident shortly after tying the knot.

Harley Joe Morgan (19) and Rhiannon Boudreaux (20), from Texas in the US, were leaving the court building after getting married when the horrific accident occurred on Friday 23 August, People reports.

As the couple drove out of the parking lot and joined the highway, their car was hit by a 4x4 vehicle carrying a tractor on a trailer.

The car rolled several times before landing in a grassy ditch.

According to KDFM, the groom’s mother Kennia Lashawna Morgan, who was driving behind the couple, tried saving them but to no avail.

They were pronounced dead on the scene.

“They hadn’t even been married for five minutes,” Kennia said.

“I watched my baby die. I’m still wearing my son’s blood because I was trying my best to rip him and her out of the car.”

"That's an image that will haunt me the rest of my life. I won't forget it. It will never go away.

“I’ll see that truck hit my baby and kill my baby every night of my life, the rest of the time that I'm on earth."

The truck driver wasn’t injured in the accident, the cause of which is yet to be revealed.

Kennia went on to tell the New York Post that the couple were childhood sweethearts

"Those two babies," the devastated mom said. "The only thing they wanted was to get married and start their life. The two of them had so many dreams."

She urged families to cherish their time together.

"Go home and hug your family tonight," Kennia said.

“If you have kids, go home and hug them, because now I don't have my kid. I don't have the one thing in my life that made me happy.

“Even if you're mad, hug your family. Love your family. Even if they've made you mad, make amends.

“Don't go to bed angry because you don't know. You don't know how fast you can lose that person.”

Police are investigating.
