A Russian woman was shocked after her “dead son” turned up on her doorstep four months after he was cremated.

Antonina Mikhailovna (62), who’s from Kronstadt in Russia, had reported her 43-year-old son, Konstantin, missing on 18 March.

She said he’d been missing for six days and she didn’t know where he was.

A month later, Antonina got a call from the police saying they might have found his body. She was then called to the morgue where she positively identified him.

The family, including Konstantin's estranged wife and daughter, then arranged the funeral, which was followed by a cremation and his internment in the local cemetery.

Four months after his burial, there was a knock at his mother’s door and a stunned Antonina opened it to find her son standing outside.

She told local media she almost collapsed when she saw him.

The mother, Antonina Mikhailovna, had identified her son Konstantin as being the dead person in the Frunze district morgue, a baffled police spokesperson said.

Antonina apologised to police for misidentifying the body.

“He looked very familiar, and so I confirmed to police that he was my son,” she said.

Police have no idea who the cremated man is.

Konstantin, who graduated from military school and worked on a naval base, said life had got too much for him and he’d needed to take some time out.

“I was thinking about the meaning of life, and what I want to do with myself,” he said.

Police confirmed they’re investigating the case.
