An American family of three are battling unimaginable circumstances after each was diagnosed with a different type of cancer.

Benoit Desclef, his wife, Kathy, and their 17-year-old son, Luke, are each battling a different form of cancer, CNN reports.

"It's hard to process," Kathy told local media.

Five years ago the Desclef family’s world was flipped upside down when Kathy was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer that originates in your lymphatic system.

Things worsened when doctors told Benoit he had an inoperable brain tumour in August this year, People reports.

Two months later, Luke was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, a similar cancer to his mom’s, though hers is much rarer.

“I found a lump on my neck and I thought it was weird, and I told my mom,” the teen said.

Benoit, a French chef, had moved to Florida to start a restaurant which he called The Magnificat Café.

But due to the family’s failing health, the business has taken a hit.

"With Benoit, they've said roughly 12 years. With Luke, he has a very good prognosis if he responds to treatment and we'll know how well he responds next week when they do a PET (positron emission tomography) scan," Kathy said.

"For me, it's hard to say because the variant I have is so rare they don't have a lot of data on that."

Kathy explained that all they can do it rely on their faith.

"We are set up for God to show up because it's so over the top.”
