A pregnant bride died from a stroke minutes before she was due to get married.

Jessica Guedes (30), a nurse from São Paulo in Brazil, was six months pregnant and believed to be healthy until she fell ill in a limo last Sunday, Sun UK reports. She was on her way to church to get married.

Jessica had been complaining of feeling dizzy and she was experiencing neck pain. Initially her family thought she was suffering from anxiety and pre-wedding jitters. They were unaware that Jessica was actually suffering from pre-eclampsia, Daily Mail reports. Pre-eclampsia is the development of high blood pressure among that pregnant women.

Flavio Gonçalvez (31), Jessica’s fiancé, had been waiting at the altar and found the delay odd.

“I was waiting for her at the altar and she was taking ages to come in. I became worried. One of her cousins ran down the aisle and told me that Jessica had passed out,” Flavio, a firefighter says.

“I ran outside and opened the car door and she was lying down. She regained consciousness to talk to me.”

Jessica was rushed to hospital but was declared brain dead following a stroke shortly after her arrival. Doctors performed an emergency C-section and managed to save the baby.

Baby Sophia weighed 930g and was 34cm tall at birth. She has to stay in the ICU for at least two more months before she can go home.

“Jessica was a really cheerful person who loved life, an enlightened person and a strong beacon of light,” her bereaved father says.

Flavio was devastated with the passing of his wife-to-be. “I was really looking forward to becoming her husband and becoming a father. But I will be strong and I will not weaken in the face of adversity.”
