Ever heard of the saying “I’d be rich if I got a rand every time I got asked a stupid question?”, well this restaurant in America is taking it literally by charging patrons for asking waiters stupid questions.

According to Metro UK, Tom’s Diner which is in the city of Colorado is charging customers $0.38 (+- R5.48) for asking questions, they deem to be stupid, in an attempt to make customers think before asking something silly, patronising or stupid while at the restaurant.

Speaking to the publication, Sandra, a server at the restaurant said that there were a lot of silly things on the menu and that it was all for fun.

“It’s just a bit of fun. It’s funny and lighthearted and is just meant to make the customers smile. We have lots of silly things on our menu like that,” she said.

And even though it’s all just for laughs, those who ask a lot of silly questions will find themselves billed for stupid questions once the bill comes.

And according to the general manager Hunter Landry, who spoke to Today Food, questions such as “Does the ice have any water in it?" and “Are there any dues for the turkey club sandwich?" are some of the questions that constitutes as stupid and silly.

He also said that humour is important as it kept things light.

“It's meant to be playful. It's good to keep things light in today's world," he told the publication.

“"It's all about not taking yourself too seriously. We're not here for a long time, so let's enjoy ourselves and try to make the most of this life," he continued.

A picture of a receipt from the restaurant which was shared by a Reddit user recently went viral, with many sharing their experiences at the diner.

“I go there all the time with my buddies! Good food and good people. Dont get hung up over a funni joke,” one user commented.

“If I got paid to listen to people's stupid questions I'd probably be a billionaire,” another wrote.
