A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Monday in an attack witnessed by his peers who simply watched and recorded the incident on their phones.

Khaseen Morris, from Long Island in the US, was walking back from school when he was attacked by a group of about seven assailants, The Washington Post reports.

Khaseen lay bleeding on the pavement, fighting for his life from a stab wound to his chest, while 50 other teenagers stood by and filmed as the boys brutally beat him.

Footage of the incident was shared on Snapchat and other social media platforms, according to USA Today.

“Kids stood here and didn't help Khaseen. They videoed his death instead of helping him,” said Lieutenant Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Police Department in New York.

According to Fitzpatrick, the attack was sparked by a dispute over a girl that the high school student was seen with the previous weekend, Buzzfeed News reports.

Khaseen’s sister, Keyanna Morris (30), told local media that her brother had been threatened by the girl’s ex-boyfriend but that he hadn’t taken the threat seriously.

"Khaseen is like, ‘OK, if you beat me up, fine.’ No one knew he was going to bring a million people out there – and a knife,” Keyanna said.

The Nassau County Police Department urged people who have information about the attack to share it with police.

"This can't go on," Fitzpatrick said.

"Your friends are dying while you stand there and video it. This is egregious."
