Life is difficult and we could all do with a bit of kindness.

If you saw someone being taken advantage of, or about to get robbed, what would you do? Are you the kind of person who will step in and help, or do you just mind your business and stay out of trouble?

Well, the American show What Would You Do?, put a few New Yorkers to test – and this woman is being hailed a hero with no cape after standing up for a “blind man” who was about to be “robbed”.

The show put together a scenario with two actors, one playing a blind man and one playing a lady who’d pretend to rob him. At what seems to be a restaurant or café, the man walks in to get himself a cup of coffee, but he has lost track of how much money he has in his wallet so he asks a stranger for help.

The stranger, played by the actress, lies and tells him he has a lot less money than he actually has in his hands, and attempts to pocket the blind man’s money.

But a customer who overhears the conversation, and sees what is about to happen, stands up for the man and stops the “robber” in her tracks.

The innocent customer, who has no idea this is all staged, gives the supposed blind man an accurate report of how much money he has and calls out the “robber” for what she was trying to do. When the actress makes excuses, the customer completely shuts her down – clearly disgusted with her behaviour.

The customer – who has been identified as Sabriya Amira, a microbiologist and assistant professor – has been commended on social media for not only her kind heart, but her incredibly calm and assertive demeanour while calling out bad behaviour.

In a tweet, she wrote: “Real talk – this happened a few years ago so it’s always nice to see it resurface. The one time I actually really enjoy reading the comments. What a way to end Black History Month – I really do love us."
