WATCH: Woman uses children to steal patron’s bag in Paarl

A video of a woman with three children stealing a woman’s bag outside Steers in Paarl, Cape Town has emerged on social media.

In the video which was posted multiple times on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram the woman and the three children can be seen standing behind an unsuspecting victim who is sitting at a restaurant table with her bag beside her on the floor.

While the victim is seemingly waiting to be served, the youngest child attempts to grab her bag but is distracted by something. After several more minutes of hanging around, the pregnant woman moves closer to the victim with the children and the oldest child manages to skillfully take the bag from underneath the table before they all walk away together.

Steers Paarl manager Samantha William confirmed that the incident happened at Paarl Mall.

“A lady reported that her bag was stolen but unfortunately there was nothing we could do but advise her to go report the matter to the Mall’s management. We are not sure what happened thereafter.”

Speaking to DRUM, spokesperson of SAPS Western Cape, Captain FC Van Wyk said that the theft occurred on Sunday, 11 November and a case of theft is being investigated by the Paarl Police.

“The incident referred to in the footage made available on social media, occurred on the 11th of November. A theft case is currently being investigated by the Paarl Police. No other incidents pertaining to the suspects in the footage have been reported to SAPS Paarl before or after the incident of the 11th. Detectives are following up on all leads, investigations continues, “ he said.
