Pietermarizburg - Captain America: Civil War is arguably one of the biggest superhero films of 2016 — if you’re a die-hard fan, why not experience the movie the best way possible. After the Avengers sequel last year, the film saw the largest roster of heroes on screen, after a string of successful films based on the characters themselves — and who could forget the most memorable part of the film — the introduction of the new Spider-Man? Some say even though the film was part of the Captain America series, it should have been titled The Avengers 3, as the entire movie was not centred around Steve Rogers and his superhuman powers. However, some film fans tend to forget that the events that led up to one of the most epic superhero fight scenes the world has ever seen, were as a result of the Captain and his best friend, Bucky “The Winter Soldier” Barnes. The film is not short of big hits, massive explosions and witty lines, all ingredients of the perfect Marvel movie. The only way to add the extra layer of depth to the film is to watch the movie in Nu Metro’s 4DX. Fight sequences of the film are enhanced through rough seat movements during explosions, and a more immersive experience is felt through panning shots when the seats slightly sway back and forth — which especially useful to show the magnitude and size of Ant Man’s new capability. The 4DX effects used during Civil War were used to their full potential. As with other 4DX films, the effects could have been used better — as with Batman vs. Superman, the effects were used well, but during Civil War, the movie was given a fuller experience. In many 4DX movies the effects are a great experience to add to the feature, however in 4DX, Civil War feels as though the film and 4DX effects were developed simultaneously. Strong gusts of wind, sea-spray, explosions, punches and kicks absorbed by characters and other effects made use of during the film felt a lot more tailored to the movie and while not distracting from the story, the effects added a new dimension to the film. Captain America: Civil War is definitely a must-see film, and if you’re a fan of this kind of film, expect to the feel the full effects of 4DX, especially if it is the first time you’re experiencing a film in this way. The only 4DX cinema in KwaZulu-Natal is at Nu Metro in the Pavilion in Durban.
