Port Elizabeth - The African National Congress enjoyed a significant lead in Nelson Mandela Bay as the results of the municipal elections began trickling in on Thursday morning, the SABC reported.

With 24 of the 246 voting districts declared, the ANC had a healthy lead with 74%.

      dangerfieldK - 2011-05-19 08:36

Everyone's gonna start moving to the Western Cape, I can see it now...

      Creeky - 2011-05-19 09:15

Remember.... EVERYTHING the ANC touches, BREAKS!!!! Except their PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNTS.... that GROWS!!!!!

      ANC Ancestor - 2011-05-19 10:15

  • Happy Harry - 2011-05-19 07:27

If learning the hard way doesn't work......then good luck to ya!

  • Tamz.S - 2011-05-19 07:28

A vote for ANC is like a chicken voting for KFC.

      Mark - 2011-05-19 07:37

Eh, we heard this one before (a few times). Lets try some new stuff here

      neo_acheron - 2011-05-19 09:00

@Mark, it still stays funny every time!

      Creeky - 2011-05-19 09:09

Ok... Voting ANC is like a CHICKEN voting for NANDO'S!!!!!

  • MadeInAS - 2011-05-19 07:31

The ANC is the future here in SA all these other useless parties can get on the ship and sail back to where the rotted from.ANC is for the people,by the people, the votes are proving it!!!

      Serias - 2011-05-19 07:35

Then don't toyi-toyi next week over poor service delivery..CAPISH!!!! Live with it!!!!

      saabnut - 2011-05-19 07:38

Clearly not a Cape Town resident...

      Mark - 2011-05-19 07:39

Yes so true... and they can also take the blame for the poverty, crime, unemployment, drop in education standards, corruption in government, etc, etc, etc

      Hendrik - 2011-05-19 08:02

If these people sale back, Madel you will soon be living under a tree like your parents did. Look at Africa, it's a complete mess. Somalia and Libia is the only African countries where there was no colosism and they are all starving. I went to Zimbabwe 3 weeks ago, there is almost nothing left from a country that was the breadbasket of Africa a few years ago.

      Matt - 2011-05-19 08:36

@ Hendrik. Wrong facts buddy... Ethiopia is the only country that was never colonised. Libya was Italian and Somalia was UK/France/Italy. Your point still stands though otherwise

  • mikedek - 2011-05-19 07:54

Maybe a good thing as it would not be easy for the DA to save this sinking ship. It is one of the most corrupt/ bankcrupt municipalities in the country where even the workers have to wait in order to get paid. Let it go under and then maybe the people will learn! The DA spent more of their time the past few years saving Cape Town than attending to the required investments and improvements. Why take over a "Bung" company?

  • Mxo32 - 2011-05-19 07:56

    Sour grapes....mhhhhhh

  • Jim - 2011-05-19 08:00

They obviously like open toilet type decor. They feel it gives way for expansion, So don't worry about them, next time they cry about it tell them that it was their choice, thats what they voted for.

      Redwine - 2011-05-19 08:10

With a view like Cape Town I also want an open toilet. Just imagine having a poo with the endless vistas .... heaven!!

      Serias - 2011-05-19 08:55

@Redwine...Totally agree, don't know what all the toilet hype was about, man can just imagine having a nice crapper looking at Table Mountain!!!

      ANC Ancestor - 2011-05-19 10:18

Not so nice when it's pouring with rain in winter

  • Kumbuza - 2011-05-19 08:02

The people have spoken. Long live ANC long live

      FRpower - 2011-05-19 08:33

Yeah long live the uneducated ANC supporters, more jumping up and down to poor service delivery etc etc,at least its entertaining to watch on TV.....idiots.

      ANC Ancestor - 2011-05-19 10:19

Not so fast, only 10% of the vote has been counted. To early to tell

  • Michael - 2011-05-19 08:02

So few priviledged people. If news24 was the reflection of SA demographics the whole country would be 90% DA. But sori pals, the ideas presented only indicates who has access to technology. Go stuff yourself!

      Yaseen - 2011-05-19 08:24

Thank you Michael. At least one person makes sense. All you hear is complaints, Yawn!!!!

  • Menace - 2011-05-19 08:28

@MadeInAS - This shows there are uneducated people out there. A government that doesnt deliver time and time again and they still vote ANC. I thought elections were about the betterment of society but at present it is a tool for reverse apartheid. Oh well at least we can try help and one day a brilliant true free and fair black/white/indian/coloured nation will stand together!

  • dangerfieldK - 2011-05-19 08:34

  • AllSeeingEye - 2011-05-19 08:42

Open toilets, open toilets,so far thats the best the opposition supporters can say..i dnt realy care if ANC won or DA,they cant even spell my name, this is my life and future, they wnt cum kncking at my door to give me food,u want something better DO IT URSLF n stop depending on DA or ANC,,,people of SA are losing it i mean black or white,we are losing direction,we want thinks we never worked hard for,we are busy adopting the spoon feeding attitude, wake up ppl,,,If u die tomorrow after a week we forget abt make the best of ur life

  • Wayne - 2011-05-19 08:46

Dont know where these figures arrive from, the last i checked ( 5 minutes ago) for Nelson Mandela Bay it was 47% for the ANC and 44% for the DA

      LotF - 2011-05-19 09:11

Where did you see that? Please God let the DA win the Mandela Bay Metro. The current 47% ANC doesn't include half the votes. I'm really hoping most of PE hasn't been counted yet. I don't want to believe that my beloved PE is braindead like most of SA.

  • turffies - 2011-05-19 08:49

N24 - This is very poor journalism, how can you send garbage like this out as fact?

      turffies - 2011-05-19 09:23

Nelson Mandela Bay is the metropolitan area and NOT the Eastern Cape Province, there is is a huge difference in the results if compared. EISH!!

  • Marcus Westin - 2011-05-19 08:52

How sad. The ANC will just keep on destroying NM Bay. The corruption and fraud in that Municipality will just escalate. There is absolutely NO service delivery there. Unbelievable why people still vote for the ANC in that area. Because they get nothing in return.

  • witboy - 2011-05-19 08:56

It is sad that these fool voters cannot see the light wait until they start complaining again or striking I hope they do not get one cent increase. and there roads fall apart and that there are no provision of services and I hope the fools suffer like they have been doing

      VOETSEK - 2011-05-19 09:52

for the blackman it is not about the service, the corruption etc. It is only to "show" the "whiteman" that the black can win something, can be good at something, can be "succesful", can win an election...

      ANC Ancestor - 2011-05-19 10:25

Yeah and considering that they consists of 79% of the population that is now a huuuuge accomplishment to win an election

  • johan.d.plessis - 2011-05-19 09:06

How lucky can you be - Please ANC keep your precious Mandela Bay - WE in the Republic of the Western Cape really don't need to back a province that might be our own downfall. If we try and save/uplift/restore what the ANC has killed/corrupt/stole/broke/neglected in the Eastern Cape it would be like Little Red Riding Hood tending to and healing the wounds of the Big Bad Wolf. Once the Wolf has healed he will come back to bite us in the ass.

  • Siya - 2011-05-19 09:08

I said it before and I am still saying it again.... madam and the two maids would never never rule Nelson Mandela Bay.... never ever

      Serias - 2011-05-19 10:13

Thats what you said 5 years ago in the WC...ISN't IT????

      Me - 2011-05-19 10:51

  • Airwolf - 2011-05-19 09:13

If the majority want to live like pigs and are happy with a deteriorating and corrupt municipality then so be it, that is the downside of democracy. They should then be barred from flooding into the Western Cape for a better life, they have had their chance to change it.

  • vusi22 - 2011-05-19 09:32

Sour grapes. ANC live, ANC lead

  • VOETSEK - 2011-05-19 09:48

As long as there is succesfull whites in this country, the masses will vote anc just because some whites "have" and most blacks "have not". Majority blacks is racists.

  • Virgil Snotter - 2011-05-19 10:15

An ANC mathematician must have calculated the percentages. Only 24 wards of 246 have been counted so the real effect is that of 24 wards they have won 74%. Big Deal. Wait for the results of the other 222 wards to come in and then we'll see.
