Mandela voted Cope, party claims

2011-05-18 08:12

Johannesburg - Cope is convinced former president Nelson Mandela voted for them, its Johannesburg mayoral candidate said on Wednesday.

"Mandela has voted Cope. I'm convinced," said Preddy Mothopeng in a text message to Sapa.

"For the first time in his political career he made a secret vote, changing his voting announcement."

Mothopeng said Mandela voted for his party because its leader Mosiuoa Lekota was still "serving" the cause they both believed in.

  • Robnob - 2011-05-18 08:15

Ha ha. This man is educated and tired of the corruption and lawlessness in his previous party. Without any doubt he voted for the DA

      Wayne - 2011-05-18 09:47

Yep Robnob, I'm pretty sure the Zille magic has turned the old buzzard. Tambo would be turning in his grave...

      grumpy - 2011-05-18 09:54

whoever he voted for, Im sure, he too, has relized the ANC has turned into a total faliure

      scorpio - 2011-05-18 10:31

I am convinced that Mandela cannot be happy with the way that things have turned out for his beloved ANC. This ANC is not what the stalwarts Mbeki, Tambo, Sisulu & Mandela had in mind - I am sure. Without doubt, the ANC will fractionalise somewhere in the future. Their tripart alliance is fragile at the best of times - and I look forward to the day when it all comes crashing down. It could be a lot sooner than we think !

      LBS - 2011-05-18 12:10

With Mandela's health, his hopes and forgiveness dwindled down to nothing in the ANC

      The LIon - 2011-05-18 16:40

      Get over yourself

      JusticeMan - 2011-05-18 20:24

Eric West, you are one of very few that do not respect the Good Man Nelson Mandela. How dare you show disrespect for him. No one is forcing you to stay in our Country, you do not belong here! Your Great Gran Children or eventually someone down your tree will be of Mixed Race, so face it & let go of your racism/prejuidices!

      Adam - 2011-05-18 20:46

If there is any truth in this article, then what it means is that someone bothered to vote for COPE - Just another loser party that is a chip off the old block.

      Yaseen - 2011-05-18 20:57

      lol, u wish

      Simpiwe Cele - 2011-05-18 21:01

Well he certainly didn't vote ANC because he doesn't recognise that party any more , people arrive at his house in convoys in fancy cars , sing , dance. Madiba also doesn't recognise this holy trinity. I think Madiba voted DA , they certainly closer to what he strived for.

      Tooth Fairie - 2011-05-18 21:19

Mandela realises that the danger to South Africa is not Jacob Zuma but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of a Zuma presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Zuma, who is a mere symptom of what ails South Africa. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Jacob Zuma, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President

      Blip - 2011-05-19 00:23

Mandela's hardly a "great man" when all he did was to be safely locked up -- unable to make ANY political errors or misjudgements for 27 years. He swept into the presidency on a huge wave of emotion but in his five years of office he introduced no new policies, made no new changes, took no political risks and then went away to obscurity as a pensioner. Who else can do nothing at all for 32 years and still be adored? The Dalai Lama, probably?

      Michael Matusowsky - 2011-05-19 01:22

Blip: He didn't become president by choice. The ANC asked him to lead the nation so Nelson was like "I really don't wanna be president bru, but if you insist, I'll do it for one term only, then y'all can go do whatever the hell y'all want with your new found freedom".

      Mark - 2011-05-19 07:51

ERic west, Mandela was a freedom fighter not a terrorist... unlike your uncle ET.

      Roundana - 2011-05-19 13:04

  • nixliguori - 2011-05-18 08:26

  • Rasky - 2011-05-18 08:26

FF+ would have been for a better cause though.Pitty.

      @Tom - 2011-05-18 11:51

unfortunatelly the FF+ is an irrelevant party for the days we are living in just like the AWB and sadly now the ANC. Any party that excludes other languages and colors should not be allowed to be in power!!

      sanodn - 2011-05-18 22:39

Maybe it would be better for YOU. We need a party that will be better for everyone. - 2011-05-18 22:59

FF + = PArty with White Supremist ideology.

      Mark - 2011-05-19 07:54

FF+ is a joke... just like you. They are a white supremist party

  • rasta7109 - 2011-05-18 08:27

Mandela vote Cpoe. Is this April 1? Preddy Mothopeng is having a laugh.

  • aarchaic - 2011-05-18 08:27

  • Shorts1 - 2011-05-18 08:40

We need to fully respect Madiba's right to the confidentiality of his vote, as is the case with every other voter. Failure to do so totally undermines one of the key fundamental principles of ' free & fair ' elections and, with it, democracy. Leave him be.

      Martin - 2011-05-19 01:37

dude you need to cheer up!!!!!!!!!!!! someone please give this guy a hug. like really man, this is the lighter side life. Madiba voting cope lol

  • haveyoursay - 2011-05-18 08:42

This must be an April fools joke. COPE is desperate for votes. This is the best election ploy I've ever witnessed

  • wattalotokak - 2011-05-18 08:49

hmmm - if Zuma or this idiot KNOWS who he voted for, then did they peek in the ballot??? Aren't these things meant to be SECRET??? Or rather PRIVATE??? How do they know who he voted for??? Hmmm - IEC should probe into this - WAIT: IEC is in cahoots WITH Zuma and the likes...! Jerkoffs...

      @Bowhunter, what visions?

  • wattalotokak - 2011-05-18 08:58

I could not help but noticing in the video on sabc, showing Mandela with no smile, very confused and hardly responsive...! I noticed that people were poking his arms to move and do the voting..! BUT in the photo his smile almost looks like NOT a McDonalds smile, but rather a PHOTOSHOP smile...! Check it out..! hmmmm

  • Noitol - 2011-05-18 09:01

Sorry, but you're all wrong. I have it from an irrefutable source that he deliberately spoiled his ballot sheet.

  • Freshfish - 2011-05-18 09:02

Then im voting for the Pope if he smokes dope

  • tommy 2 - 2011-05-18 09:13

  • raspatin - 2011-05-18 09:30

  • Yoni - 2011-05-18 10:20

Mandela did not look as if he knew what was going on around him. Even if Hendrik Verwoerd gave him a ballot paper with only one box on, he still would've ticked it if told to do so.

      tryanything - 2011-05-18 10:55

I think so too the poor guy looked tired and depressed . Im sorry that his vision for this country is being totally destroyed....Never again he said and look at the country now........He was totally wasted in jail ...

      Shorts1 - 2011-05-18 13:04

I find your comment most insulting. Here is great man who did an enormous amount for our country during the transformation period, gaining the respect of many millions of South Africans as well as that of the world at large. I never supported the Nats & I don't support the ANC but I am truely thankful for what Madiba did for our country. It is not at all his fault that the PDI's [ Past / Presently Dysfunctional Incumbents ] that took over once he retired from politics have screwed up everything in their own self interests.

      tryanything - 2011-05-18 13:17

Maybe you are right About the Winnie bit .My hair turned White the day after I got married..

      Francis - 2011-05-18 20:04

You are so right Yoni, people have short memories, he was a terrorist just like all the rest, refusing to renounce violence. In the latter years, sure he changed his tune and became someone I look up to and respect. But his past is there for all to see. And yes he did have a fair trial, more than I can say for people now

      POLLENYS - 2011-05-18 20:58

@ Yoni If he had any vision for the country he would have made life easier for FW and not force him out of the GNU. The rot started in 1994 with Mandela in charge, despite all his concilliatory utterances to the foreign media.

      Michael Matusowsky - 2011-05-19 01:31

Yoni, two thirds of white people wanted fairness to all races :)))))). One third wanted to remain supreme. The third like you. Yea, the "rot" started then because people didn't know how to use their vote. The ANC never had a chance to run for the presidency bla bla bla. The new generations coming through are voting in the DA, a party that's actually capable of running stuff. So like yea. "soutie" lol. Take your afrikaans tendencies and keep them at home where they belong. I'm proudly SOUTH AFRICAN, with european roots and couldn't give a damn about someone's past. Leave the old man lol. Terrorist or not, he lived out his sentence so whatever. Dunno what a 92 year old man is gonna do to you. There'll be a balance of power in the coming years, once the staunch "old" ANC supporters die out and the new DA-supporting offspring of those ANC supporters come to the fore :). So just chillaaaaaaax man.

      Shorts1 - 2011-05-19 07:54

@Yoni On one side of the political spectrum we find Malema and on the other side people like you, both with extremely narrowminded, racist views. Fortunately in between stand millions of individuals who want and are prepared to work at helping to establish a stable, well managed, non-racial environment in which we can all get on with our daily lives in the knowledge that South Africa is maturing as a true democracy. Given the horror for many of the apartheid system, this will however take some time. But you probably won't understand this. There are none so blind as those who will not see !!!!

      Yoni - 2011-05-19 21:56

@ShortOne: You can say so if you want, but I also know "The truth is considered hate by those who hate the truth.". Just make sure you and your type don't try to stand in front of me in the queue on the way to the aeroplane one day...

  • scorpio - 2011-05-18 10:25

  • World Traveler - 2011-05-18 10:26

Yes! Mandela vote DA! DA or Cope - Damn sight better than that imbecilic anc. No! Mandela did not vote anc!

  • World Traveler - 2011-05-18 10:32

Why I will vote for the DA I am a ships captain and usually sail on big bulk carriers, which trade worldwide. My crews have mostly been Ukrainian or Polish for the last eleven years and before that were mainly South African and Philipino. At last count I have been to about 55 countries, although I have really visited maybe half of those well enough to say that “I have seen that country”. Some of those countries are well run and some not but the bad ones are mostly getting better. Like Ecuador or Kenya. Some are getting worse, like Sierra Leone. People are proud to be citizens of their country. And then I sail into a South African port and the crew just laugh at the shambles! Very embarrassing when a Ukrainian crew, whose country is a shambles laugh at South Africa! During the world’s biggest economic boom in history Richards Bay did not extend their facilities at all, berths were vacant while ships were at anchor waiting for their cargoes of coal that could not be delivered to the port due to “technical” problems. It used to be the worlds biggest coal exporting port, now its productivity is an international joke. We went to Saldanha Bay to load 120 000 tonnes iron ore for Japan, had to wait ten days because of derailments and other “technical” delays. What a joke! I had told the Ukrainian crew that it was a well-run port with a well-run rail system. Very embarrassing. I was in China a few weeks ago and the taxi driver taking me to the airport was laughing at Zuma who had been on TV news. Whatever Zuma had said, something about buying electric bicycles, made him into a joke to the Chinese! They knew all about him and his fleet of wives. Ships crews used to visit Durban (or Port Elizabeth or East London) and have a great time at the beaches or shopping or night-clubbing. They spent a lot of foreign money. Now it is not safe to go up the road. Every sailor in the world knows that! They like Cape Town though; they go to the Waterfront or up the mountain if they have time. The Canal Walk Mall blows their minds! The Dad’s Toys shop is their favourite spot. I want my country to be well run and good enough to stand up to any international scrutiny. It is not. I want the Ukrainian crew to tell me that they will be visiting South Africa. They do not. I want a country to be proud of! All citizens must be proud of their country! Our present bunch of anc “leaders” is the cause of the national embarrassment. South Africa has been destroyed by the anc, they cannot be trusted to fix it. Here are just a few catastrophes that the anc are directly responsible for…. 1/ Education – destroyed by the anc! 2/ Industrial productivity – destroyed by the anc! 3/ Medical care – destroyed by the anc! 4/ Defense force – destroyed by the anc! 5/ Employment – destroyed by the anc! 6/ Police force –destroyed by the anc! 7/ Roads, rail and ports infrastructure – destroyed by the anc! 8/ Farm productivity and safety – destroyed by the anc! 9/ Crime – rampant! 10/ Corruption and cronyism – rampant! What country in the world puts the Minister of Housing in charge of all the country’s toilets! Ha! Ha! The anc are useless, the anc must go! And the sooner the better and we can all agree on that! The only political party that has the vision to get things going and to get things right is the DA. Other smaller parties may have some good points but they are just diluting the vote and in some cases even maintaining the status quo. South Africa does not need the status quo, it needs change! Now! Vote DA! Only the DA can do it! South Africa needs the DA to take charge and fix the country. For poorer people, for richer people and all of us in between people, for your children, for all of us! Act now! Act decisively! Vote DA! Vote Zille!

      Musa Ngubane - 2011-05-18 10:57

Ag, shame. Your rhetoric will not work. The masses (poor people) know what the ANC has done for them. Go and preach this in your white, rich monorites. The poor are the majority here. You are a louwsy minority, can't do a thing. Pity, you think votes are won here in the web. The poor can't read your propaganda, they don't have internet facilities. You right wing elements will be silent after the results have been released. ANC, ANC, ANC!

      Yoni - 2011-05-18 11:37

@Musa Ngubane: The poor can't read, period. Or think. That's why they always believe this Better LIE for all-rubbish, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

      Janine - 2011-05-18 14:01

@ Musa Ngubane - the poor are the majority because the ANC are in power and they don't give a s**t about them.

      fbyr - 2011-05-18 15:59

World Traveler, your post made me sad, especially to see Musa's response. You help to transport the products of South African labour to markets around the world, bringing in foreign currency and the economic power we need to fix all the ANC's mistakes; you deserve to be able to show the foreign crews your country without shame. And then there's Musa, asking for more of the same. People like Musa would prefer the iron ore to pile high at the port than to know a "louwsy minority" was transporting it for him to Japan. Musa: you are right that the poor are the majority here and don't have the internet: but do you not see that they will remain poor and without internet as long as the ANC has power? Do you not see the cause and effect? Does it not bring you shame to know the people are poor in spite of their labour? And that the only reason you're not poor as well is because when things work properly, we can sell 120,000 tonnes of iron ore to Japan, thanks to people like World Traveler? I'm not the minority. I'm the majority - I want the same things everyone else does. We all want the same things. Only the DA can bring them.

      Michael Matusowsky - 2011-05-19 01:36

You know what the poor don't realise? You need the rich to employ. If you enrich the rich, you indirectly are enriching the poor are you not? I mean the rich give the poor jobs... to give jobs you need money... the rich have money so they employ.. It's a whole circle that people don't realise lol.

      ANC Ancestor - 2011-05-19 02:38

If the Ukrainians and Chinese are laughing at us, just what does the first world countries think?? Showerhead is indeed an embarrassment to even the semi-civilized. In this country he's considered a hero by the masses. Makes one think

      anned - 2011-05-19 10:38

Musa, you are such a mushroom, but yes, you are right, the poor is the majority, would you not want that to change? The reason the ANC government wants the poor masses is because it keeps them in power, educated people that look around them objectively think, and thinking people ain't no good for the current ruling party.

  • motsokwane - 2011-05-18 10:33

ANC=MANDELA=ANC.Right, since my formula is evidence based, scientifically this tells us that DA and COPE want to = ANC for claiming that Mandela voted for them. Are you with me? Rise and shine ANC, even your enemies envy your style and EGO.

      Chibuli - 2011-05-18 17:53

      braveinternetguy - 2011-05-19 00:08

What? I'm not even going to give you points for trying. Forthermore, two points deducted for using the terms "formula" and "scientific" without proper context. Your score is currently negative, and you have therefore not qualified. Dismissed.

      Matt - 2011-05-19 01:19

      you one clueless sheeple friend!

      Michael Matusowsky - 2011-05-19 01:39

Corruption + Cronyism = ANC (Proven) Poor getting poorer = ANC (Proven) Lies + promises = ANC (Proven) Mandela's vision = ANC (Disproven) Thus a new formula was made: Madela's vision = DA (Proven) So, does my "scientific" theory work out?

  • Jynxd - 2011-05-18 10:44

Well I strongly doubt that he would vote for the ANC...

      Musa Ngubane - 2011-05-18 11:04

Well, I doubt your intelligence. Who would Mandela vote for, beside the ANC? You people are so desperate! Never mind, the ANC is going to hit back at you, very hard. These whities labelled Mandela a terrorist for years, now they misuse his name. Desperation at its best! ANC lives, ANC leads!

      Yoni - 2011-05-18 11:39

He was and always will be a terrorist, albeit a very unsuccessful one. Who really liberated him? White people, not MK. Prove me wrong, or were you also one of the brave ones who targeted civilians in shopping centres?

      Skottie - 2011-05-18 13:18

@ Musa ... you should have added the following (forget about the whites, look at what they are doing to your own race, blacks) - ANC destroys everything they touch - ANC steals black kids food from their mouths - ANC doesn't care if woman and children get raped on a daily basis - ANC doesn't care if their own kill their own - ANC leaders enriched themselves while the poor get poorer - ANC have multiple mansions and luxury cars and expensive parties ... the poor still stay in shacks have no transport and can't afford to eat! - ANC don't want to educate the uneducated as they will then no longer believe their lies - ANC always blames apartheid for everything even after 17 years they had to fix ... but no they just DESTROY! You (ANC) are supposedly a non-racial party but all the ANC shouts every day is black-and-white! You know why? Because without racial tension they will NOT get the number of votes they do get ...

      Blip - 2011-05-19 00:25

  • Musa Ngubane - 2011-05-18 10:44

This man is drunk. Mandela's vote has & always be ANC. Why associate Mandela with the circuis (COPE). They can't even manage themselves. How can they manage councils? These are just few, confused, angry bunch of fools who lost in Polokwane. COPE will be finished after the elections. They need miracles to win even a ward, let alone the council. As for the Devil's Alliance, you are so desperate to win Black votes. Stop misusing Mandela's name, you are annoying us. Sies! I hope the ANC organises a cleansing ceremony after the elections to cleanse Mandela's name, it has been used by evil spirits. COPE, DA: Go to hell! You must be having names of your micky-mouse people to use. Stop misusing Mandela's name, nx!

      tryanything - 2011-05-18 11:03

Musa. Mandela was and is an honest man he does not need any cleansing ceremonies or help from wankers..... Its the current turkeys that have buggered everything up........He didnt have to run around garnering help from from low lifes and other sponges. did most of it himself. too bad he is too old now.

      tryanything - 2011-05-18 11:08

Put some more paint cans under your bed legs please.

      Yoni - 2011-05-18 11:41

Musa believes in the forefathers and cleansing ceremonies! Methinks the ancestors are too busy cleansing the corruption left in your wake. Just be careful that you don't wake up my forefathers like Andries Pretorius and Sarel Cilliers... Remember what happened last time.

      Nobody - 2011-05-18 14:46

Mandela is a father to our nation, his legacy and beliefs have eminated outside the ANC a long time ago. He is a father to all of us now. Black, White, Coloured , whatever. So thanks for your meaningless ramblings Ngubane. You don't own his legacy. Ciao, bye. Steenkamp.

      Blackgold - 2011-05-18 15:54

MUSA i agree with you. YONI i know you wish your forefathers would wake up, TOO BAD! Mandela had a mandate to stabilize and start the building process, now the government is in motion. Next we are starting to TAKE back. So you sorry white people who think DA will stop us from taking back our mines and farms hahahahahhaa! I actually think we should be more aggressive seeing that you are arrogant settlers on OUR land. We should have let those first settlers starve to death! Now we know how whites think. If you resist, we have over 35 million hungry black people who will help. You should be grateful to be living in beautiful Africa instead of cold ugly Europe. Australia needs you guys! The ANC even freed white Afrikaner women, now they have can own land and bank accounts without a hairy boer abusing them and their daughters ( we know what you did to your kids!) I accept and appreciate white people who understand the FACT that a previously oppressive system favoured them and reparations are due in order to bring true equality. Not white people who support reparations for Jews and believe we are inferior and don't deserve to have economic control of our own resources. SOME OF US ARE ON TO YOU, WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!

      Chibuli - 2011-05-18 17:58

@yoni, Dont you have other things to do than incite racial tension on a comment board? get a life you backwards ignorant bigot...

      americist___ - 2011-05-18 21:39

@blackgold, your just as bad as Joni, and as ignorant...although I doubt "your people" even knew what precious metals were below the surface or any idea how to mine, or farm......

      Yoni - 2011-05-18 22:06

@americist: It's quite obvious I was responding to Musawakhe's comments. Interestingly you conveniently ignore what he had to say. Have you got any point you'd like to make beside calling me names? If not, leave this site and go find something more on your intellectual level, like a milkshake perhaps - banana flavour must be your favourite. What type of a name is an "americist", were you trying to write "I'm a racist / Em a recist" and that's your best attempt? Oh yes, just like Musa you also failed to shoot down any of my factual arguments...

      Noname - 2011-05-19 05:22

Not important what you say, important is (if ois tuth) THAT MANDELA DID NOT VOTE FOR ANC!!! Hopefully ANC got message, actually with they inteligence I doubt that.

      anned - 2011-05-19 10:45

@blackgold The only reason why the ANC wants to nationalize mining is so that they can sell the rights to the Chinese. Some kader high up allready has is eyes on the till.

      Clinton - 2011-05-19 11:41

  • pompie1 - 2011-05-18 11:03

I was shocked when I saw Mandela. He didn`t look "right" to me. My guess is that he had a stroke. Non Compos Mentis.

  • Lunga - 2011-05-18 11:47

    LMFAO!!!!!!! you made my day!

  • Shado3225 - 2011-05-18 11:53

Can't the people just leave the man alone - his done enough for this country, given all he has to give. Just leave the man to live out the rest of his life in peace, that is the least we can give him after all his been through.

  • ferrariferreira - 2011-05-18 11:55

Maybe he voted DA..better life..better service and voting for service..not race! Love you Madiba!

  • ferrariferreira - 2011-05-18 11:55

Maybe he voted DA..better life..better service and voting for service..not race! Love you Madiba!

  • MBruno - 2011-05-18 12:46

Unfortunately, as long as South Africans continue to vote across racial lines, there is an upper limit to the share of the popular vote which the DA can achieve. That ceiling, currently around 20 %, corresponds roughly to the sum of the total white, coloured and Indian vote. There is no intrinsic reason however for the black African majority not to cast their vote for a party other than the ANC, such as COPE, the UDM or even the DA. Eventually they will do so, once they break free from the feelings of fear, ignorance or plain regret that still bind them to an otherwise corrupt and incompetent ruling party that has long betrayed the noble ideals of its founding fathers. The big question is that, if they wait too long, the ANC, under the likes of Malema et al., may have already run down South Africa, once the richest country in the continent, to a Zimbabwe-like status, not to mention tearing apart the constitution and suppressing civil liberties.

  • Nicholas - 2011-05-18 12:58

Unamanga lomfokati u just wan't recognision .Poor COPE try something else not 2 play around the old man , plz respect Madiba plz

  • ystergarde - 2011-05-18 13:13

soos ek verstaan het madiba VF+ gestem...

      Barry - 2011-05-19 09:51

@ ystergarde Eishhhhhh Jy kom nou van n ander angle Jy wil snaaks wees ne ?

  • Monica - 2011-05-18 13:45

You should have voted for DA Mr. Mandela! They are a party for all races of this country!

  • Janine - 2011-05-18 13:58

Cope is a lame duck - I doubt that Madiba would waste his vote on them. The DA, on the other hand, is a force to be reckoned with.

  • Che - 2011-05-18 14:47

what a sick joke! the cope clowns are shameless. remember, Mandela refused to meet Terror just before the COnfusion of the People was launched? Madiba is a member of the African National Congress and has said that would remain so even in heaven.

      Mxhuma - 2011-05-18 15:01

Not sure about the heaven part!

      Che - 2011-05-18 19:47

well, that's what he's on record as saying. So what r u not sure about? whether he said it or whether there's heaven?

      EugeneF - 2011-05-19 11:26

And remember - voting for the ANC guarantees your spot in Heaven!

  • Mxhuma - 2011-05-18 14:57

I have never heard of Preddy Mothopeng ever since the election fever started. Now for the first time I read this kind of nonsense about Mandela. What convinced him? Empty, Useless, Hopeless and Copeless are few of the words that come to mind to describe who this Preddy M is. And I am on my way to vote now: not for COPE or the ANC!

  • Thanduxolo - 2011-05-18 15:31

    He is an ANC forever!

      andrew.pottow - 2011-05-18 19:03

Why, for the first time in his life, has he chosen to keep his ballot a secret then? Previously, he always was open about who he voted for, the ANC. Why the sudden change? Is it not a valid conclusion to draw that he must not have voted ANC? I mean, if he had voted ANC, why would he keep it secret? If he voted for someone else, I see considerable reason not to disclose who got his vote!

  • The LIon - 2011-05-18 16:39

The poor Mothopeng is a joke, actually an idiot

  • mal.emmer - 2011-05-18 16:51

Unfortunately Mandela did vote for DA. When we (UJ comrades and I independently) downloaded and graphic enhanced the photo's contrasts and colours it was quite clear (actually unmistakeable). At first I was quite confused because the way the ballot was half folded in his hand it was photo'd upside down. Interestingly I see the photo has been removed from the newspaper's website and not just archived. The link no longer opens it. But I genuinely think that he just made a mistake - he would not really have wished to vote DA. Accidents happen.

      Matt - 2011-05-19 01:24

tell yourself that - why would someone who was a freemdom fighter vote for a party creating tension in the country - it doesnt make sense to vote ANC. Black or white who cares - we all suffer together!!!

  • lenand40 - 2011-05-18 18:09

  • Peter Retief - 2011-05-18 18:22

    Go Nelson

  • Zakhele - 2011-05-18 19:26

This claim is equivalent to saying George Bush voted for the Al-Qaeda!

      Michael Matusowsky - 2011-05-19 01:48

      But he did :D!

  • Jason - 2011-05-18 19:55

I think at 90 something it's more likely he drew a picture of a goat on the ballot.

      jowza - 2011-05-19 09:40

yes the goat looked like steve hofmeyer

      Barry - 2011-05-19 09:52

      Yes The goat is Malema

  • Lestor - 2011-05-18 20:54

It doesn't matter who he voted for. Why the obsession. He is one man.

  • 123.01 - 2011-05-18 21:33

    Why don't you ask him?
