Vote now, sort out candidates later - Zuma

2011-04-28 21:56

Bloemfontein - President Jacob Zuma told unhappy ANC members during an election drive in Bloemfontein on Thursday to "vote for the ANC and we will sort out the candidate lists later".

Zuma was visiting the Khayelitsha informal settlement near Grasslands in Bloemfontein when local residents handed a memorandum to him containing their grievances.

He urged the gathering from the inside of an ANC election truck to be disciplined.

He told the cheering crowd the ANC would investigate the unhappiness regarding the election candidates lists and would come back to them after the elections.

Local residents were also unhappy about stands for houses in the area.

Thabo Ramolahloane, 27, said the council must make a plan for "pens" (stands), roads and electricity in the area.

"They must stop their propaganda, the ANC. Enough is enough."

He said councillors had visited them during 2010 and made many promises which never materialised.

Elias Qokoza, 26, said he wanted a job. He criticised the council for using people outside his ward area to do work inside the ward.

"Hier is niks werk. (here are no jobs)."

Tshepo Sehloho, 29, was very critical of the ANC's visit to the area.

"They want our vote but we will not see them again [afterwards]," he said.

People's president

Zuma was accompanied by Free State premier Ace Magashule, outgoing Mangaung mayor Playfair Morule and various Free State MEC's.

Many party members in yellow T-shirts, waving flags praised the ANC and danced in the dirt road in front of the truck's stage.

Many came just to see "The People's President" and even children pushed and shoved to get a glimpse of Zuma.

A barefoot boy carried another on his shoulders in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the stage. Many residents passed cellphones to journalists, security and photographers to take Zuma's picture.

At the end of every gathering, Zuma's trademark song Umshini Wami' (bring me my machine gun) sounded.

In a visit to the Mapikela House in Batho, Zuma told the crowd outside that they were "bound to vote ANC" because of the party's origins in Bloemfontein.

If development has not reached them yet, "it was coming, it was just a matter of time", he told them.

  • Mundu - 2011-04-28 22:01

Yeah right!! vote now and we (the ANC) will appoint the biggest thieves to take all your stuff later.

      rammstein.f4n - 2011-04-28 22:39

I'm shocked at the fact that he blatantly tells people they're "bound to the ANC"...Are the people slaves? Does the ANC own them?

      Sedick - 2011-04-29 02:34

Yep, even he believes the crap that comes out of his mouth.....oh well, there is always the shower........, and all his wives.......,

      Simpiwe Cele - 2011-04-29 05:29

Wow now thats the ANC expecting a leap of faith , let them in for another 5 years eish dont think so........

      croix - 2011-04-29 06:10

Simpiwe - you are so right..... Zuma knows his time might be short, so he made sure his 'complex' got an upgrade of many, many MILLIONS! Vote now, suffer later?

      Blikskottel - 2011-04-29 06:35

Yiu better get cracking to let your comrades know this is a very shitty idea.

      thirty thirty - 2011-04-29 07:40

I sometimes wonder what it must feel like to have a president one can look up to...

      SaintBruce - 2011-04-29 08:02

The voter message has been so clear from many areas - we want to know who is representing us and we want people who will listen and care for our needs to be our leaders. The ANC is clearly deaf and also lazy if you think about it. Zuma does all the electioneering work and the local guys appointed later just stroll in and have a good time even if they live somewhere else! This party - political system sucks, and it shows. I want to know who is my ward councillor and to hold him/her accountable for my area - that is politics as it should be and democracy as it should be. Dont the ANC get this message? Clearly not! Great Shame really.

      Thangy - 2011-04-29 09:49

"The Peoples President" What a f***ing joke!! Name one person, other than a friend or family member, who has benefited from you being president, just one!

      LBS - 2011-04-29 20:40

      Promises, promises, promises....

  • Joachin01 - 2011-04-28 22:06

Shame on you! You are a poor excuse for a president to tell people this load of cr@p. I hope they vote away your majority.

  • Mike Hoxbig - 2011-04-28 22:26

Seems to be the ANC way in general. Vote now, service delivery later.

      Taurusaurus - 2011-04-28 22:39

      Or service delivery never. :)

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-04-28 22:58

By "later" they mean no later than somewhere in 2056

      Blikskottel - 2011-04-29 06:35

      Later?? you mean never.

  • James - 2011-04-28 22:27

and that sums up the history of the ANC voters......follow us blindly like sheep - keep us in power so we can continue making wild and spectacular promises while blaming anyone and anything around us other than the ANC for our failings, and we can continue plundering the coffers until this cash cow is milked dry

  • Linda - 2011-04-28 22:30

yes vote now and we'll sort you out later - like they've been sorting you out for the last 17 years. Only a fool would believe this.

      Daan - 2011-04-29 03:19

      And there is millions fools....

  • Tom - 2011-04-28 22:31

Yes people. Buy and pay for the donkey now and after the election it will have magically turned into a cow!

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-04-28 22:58

nah, it'll most probably turn into a sloth

  • Christo - 2011-04-28 22:32

From a president with no formal schooling..what do you expect..

      Blikskottel - 2011-04-29 06:36

What do I expect: Him to occupy a job that suits his qualifications....

      Happy-go-lucky - 2011-04-29 08:24

@Blikskottel: i dont think that toilet cleaning is an option for him

  • Jf - 2011-04-28 22:32

"vote for the ANC and we will sort out the candidate lists late!" "If development has not reached them yet, it was coming, it was just a matter of time", he told them. "If development has not reached them yet, "it was coming, it was just a matter of time", he told them." that goes along with..."voting ANC=going to heaven"! and "not voting ANC=killing Mandela"! What next??? oh here it is..."At the end of every gathering, Zuma's trademark song Umshini Wami' (bring me my machine gun) sounded." So, I suppose if you are still unsure about your vote, here comes Zuma's machine gun!

  • braveinternetguy - 2011-04-28 22:33

"Give us all the Power, we will decide what to do with it, later..." My pocket ANCTranslator-o-matic says so. SMASH THE ANC WITH YOUR VOTE!

      Taurusaurus - 2011-04-28 22:42

My pocket ANCTranslator-o-matic says "We are idiots who don't deserve any attention, let alone your vote" Advice for everyone: Don't vote for the ANC - they don't even know how to manage their own organization!

  • velastardust - 2011-04-28 22:40

OMG ! Epic fail for democracy ! Voting for who ?

      Taurusaurus - 2011-04-28 22:44

      ^ Voting for DA! :)

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-04-28 22:59

      Anyone other than ANC?

  • Zebelon - 2011-04-28 23:00

The president is again on his tricks, because we are all stupid in his eyes. Now he wants you to vote ANC and forget your preferred candidates. He promises to make amends after the elections. Take his word and abandon your choices at your peril. Mr Promise will always promise you as he has done in the past two years, but people see no results.

  • zoli - 2011-04-28 23:04

I hope Zuma and the crew can burn in hell i hate to say this if this country was run by the man not a boy like Zuma better things would have happen i hate zulus with their 50 wifes'

  • Fred - 2011-04-28 23:05

Lies, lies, lies and still more lies, and the stupid sheep will still vote for the ANC, and they will still be complaining next election, and they will still vote for them again, and again, and again ..... like a broken record !!!!!

      palmerc - 2011-04-28 23:15

So very true. Why is the ANC even campaigning cause the flock will vote for their shepherd till jesus comes again...which will be forever.

      katefish - 2011-04-29 03:00

And they will blame the despicable behaviour of the ANC criminals on apartheid - the irony is too much to take?! Lol!

  • Lydon - 2011-04-28 23:09

I'm sorry, but anyone who believes this drivel and votes for the ANC is bringing a lack of service delivery on themselves.

  • Douglas - 2011-04-28 23:10

    This must be un-constitutional!!

      WCD - 2011-04-29 07:57

      What constitution ?

  • OuWitBooi - 2011-04-28 23:10

"Zuma told the cheering crowd the ANC would investigate the unhappiness regarding the election candidates lists and would come back to them after the elections." Why not before the elections? Because after the elections he will suddenly remember that you cannot swap elected councilors - you can only replace them by holding a new by-election if they resign or are incapacitated. And then it will be too late and the people will be saddled with the candidates appointed by Luthuli House instead of those the community selected. More lies and deliberate deceit by JZ and the ANC.

      Electronic Cemetery - 2011-04-29 13:57

Surely there is a precedent for the constitutional court to have him (JZ) investigated for deliberately deceiving the people? I mean what is the use of having a constitution when our people aren't educated enough to make educated choices... It's kind of like letting Minor children vote, they do not know enough to make an educated choice that'll best suit them or their future they will just vote for the smiling guy who lies the best about what he'll be giving them... How on Earth do we stop these people from ruining our country?

  • Pencilgraffiti - 2011-04-28 23:15

ANC reaching new lows with this election...

  • See-More - 2011-04-28 23:32

Now, guys, can you see how Africa got colonized in the first place - in fact many times over (starting with the Phoenicians)! To quote Kaa (the snake in iJungle Book, for those that don't know their bedtime stories): "Trust in me, just trust in me" while I hypnotize you with my charisma so I can EAT YOU! The people are too trusting, and easily manipulated by the next "Wizard" - "Backwards, Ever, Forwards, Never" - hear the Cry to the Masses! And they shall follow!

      Blikskottel - 2011-04-29 06:37

Phoenicians..yes thus whites and they were the one who buildt the piramides as well.

  • Shayne - 2011-04-28 23:38

Zuma has a new hear style looking good JZ

  • Bill - 2011-04-29 00:05

How the hell does one vote for an unknown candidate.... And this is our honourable President making these pitiable and unrealistic remarks!! It is not just a case of sommer gooi your x on the spot and we make a plan down the line later…Mr President! The man is either desperate for votes, openly incompetent, or just plain delusional about how voting for a candidate takes place…!

  • maseratifitt - 2011-04-29 00:16

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses You've been selling pretenses, for so long now...

  • Ogre - 2011-04-29 00:21

Hell, they must have run out of promises to replace those that have not been kept. They now have to grasp at straws to get the votes. "Vote for us now so that we can have more time to think of excuses as well as brewing up new was to shaft the voters"

  • Stephen - 2011-04-29 01:53

"vote for the ANC and we will sort out the candidate lists later". I dont undestand...whose face will be on the ballot paper, ANC logo? ANC treats its supporters like sheeps or fans....How long wil it take a black man to see that ANC is up to no good. It's a shame that ANC diehard fans cannot differentiate between DEMOCRACY and idiocracy.

      paulf - 2011-04-29 07:15

ANC logo with Zuma's photo on I bet. it is actually unconstitutional to change the candadites after the election. I don't know what Zuma smokes but seems good stuff.

  • Willie - 2011-04-29 02:36

This pathetic laughable state of affairs where they mislead their own constituents about councilors is another micro discloser of what is happening in the inner sanctum of the ANC. On the macro front their incompetence, don't care a damn - I'm on the gravy train, conniving, etc., etc is just much worse. South Africa wake up, we cannot afford that this bunch lead us into the future. They cannot lead themselves so how can they lead a country

  • Krolie - 2011-04-29 03:31

Reminds me of a kindergarden playground with kids playing "let's pretend we're the president!". Well, the whole bunch of them have not grown up. Malema and his shoot to kill song is like a kid bawling away clutching to his lollipop and won't let go, and the president coming in from the side trying to better him by singing where's my machine gun. Really, what a bunch of kids. They make no lasting impression, except just to instill absolute disgust. Wake up South Africa. And to all those "kids" out there, go back to school, learn what it is to be a decent person, what the word respect means, and for heavens sake, grow up! You're an absolute disgrace!

  • CEDRIC SEHAS - 2011-04-29 05:24

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!....My word are these people for real. My fellow SOUTH AFRICANS you cannot tell me you would even consider believing the aforementioned headline... My son even asked me once, why the anc are always fighting and shouting?

  • honey_badger - 2011-04-29 05:50

Guys the ANC will never deliver anything least of which services. Best to either leave SA now or VOTE FOR THE DA who are the only party to bring true service delivery outcomes to SA.

  • cepotgieter - 2011-04-29 06:22

What!! If they cant even do the basic things first, how can they run a country.... They cant prioritise! Vote now and the small things come later! NOOO!!! the small practical things need to come first! Then you know who to vote... You cant go in blind trusting a fool! Open your eyes suporters!!!!

  • croix - 2011-04-29 06:26

This is just another example of the disrespect with which Zuma treats the citizens of this country - notice how he pushes up his glasses with "the finger"? Is that SYMBOLIC, or WHAT ?!!

  • Blikskottel - 2011-04-29 06:34

..and if the crowd do this, the just proof how stuoid they can be.

  • pitbull - 2011-04-29 06:53

YES - Vote and get this trash out of power. If everyone votes against them then they will be out. If you don't vote you are just allowing them to stay in power. Remember, it takes two idiots to outvote a genius.

  • Damask - 2011-04-29 07:14

I'm not even surprised anymore by the amount of drivel the ANC spouts on a daily basis. I was shocked at first, but I got tired of picking my jaw up from the floor everytime I read another article on here. Wake up, people. You're digging your own graves

  • daaivark - 2011-04-29 07:22

  • jaycee - 2011-04-29 08:13

With its tragic record of empty promises, the ANC is demonstrating the low esteem they hold of the electorate, to continue making promises. The electorate have become wiser, Mr President, and you can't fool them all the time.

  • FRpower - 2011-04-29 08:15

You have to be an idiot to beleive this two faced liar President.

  • esther - 2011-04-29 08:16

Mr Zuma sir have you lost your mind? sorry that I ask but you should be more careful who you put on your list. you should also be way more careful who you put on key positions as the are supposed to be there for the people and not mean only their family! I am terribly sorry to say this Mr. Zuma but you are making a mess of it and so is your group. so sad to see that what the ANC stood for is looking like it is a thing of the past. a nation for ALL?

  • vumz - 2011-04-29 08:37

this is the nonsense that makes anc more appaling! if anybody saw how people in a township outside Rhodes live, last night on tv, i swear to you, nobody, and i mean nobody....would vote for anc.these human beings are being robbed their decency and right to decent, healthy lifestyle. they still use the bucket system...people! 17 years later? are we still there? now before they start going on about the previous regime, which was just as appalling...the anc needs to realise that there is no one to blame now except them, they are in power, they have been for the past 2 decades and they are accountable for whatever has happened since 94, which isnt much by the way. in this same area outside Rhodes, there has been mismanagement of funds of over 34mil, that went! somebody enlighten me? there are people in these offices, with job descriptions and responsibilities, how does so much money go missing and no one is accountable? is this what we should keep voting for? to vote for the elite to get bigger and better? this should be a lesson to any voter out there, that no one can be trusted with so much power, neutralise the anc this election, give more power to other parties, if they dont learn now, i'm afraid, the future is bleak and built on lies.

  • James Joubert - 2011-04-29 08:38

"Vote Now Cry Later" careful Mr Zuma the people are slowly getting pissed off. They are not stupid and will come to realize that the ANC has lost it way and grows more like the NP every day.

And still the masses will vote for the ANC. Certainly, and especially after this election, ANC supporters deserve what's coming to them. Unfortunately, the few of us, black and white, who still has some competence to see how the ANC is running the country, will have to bear with the consequences of the majority vote.

  • jds - 2011-04-29 08:47

"Vote now, sort out candidates later"-That is the ANC's policy summed up perfectly! Vote now, and sort the country out later!what a joke!

  • jds - 2011-04-29 08:51
