IF you were not at the My Sapphire CommUnity Beach Walk on Youth Day, 16 June, you missed a fabulous day out.

The walk, an initiative of the new My Sapphire CommUnity (MSC), saw more than 400 visitors, many accompanied by their exuberant dogs, enjoy a magnificent day out along the Sapphire Coast. The four kilometre walk from Winklespruit beach to Baggies Beach and back took place in beautiful weather conditions.

The event, hosted by Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club and supported by SPCA Amanzimtoti, exceeded expectations and is set to become an annual highlight each Youth Day.

Walkers unwound at the Winkle clubhouse after the walk, with beach activities for children and a drumming circle adding to the fun.

If you are not totally content with the way things are in your community, My Sapphire CommUnity invites everyone, young and old, to play their part in making a difference. Working with stakeholders, including eThekweni Municipality, SAPS, businesses, schools and community organisations, My Sapphire CommUnity aims to celebrate our magnificent Sapphire Coast and optimise tourism and economic development opportunities.

Plans are already under way for the next My Sapphire CommUnity event, to be held on Heritage Day, 24 September. For more information visit the My Sapphire CommUnity page on Facebook, or email sapphirecom munity@gmail.com
