BESIDES receiving from the community, the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre does its best to reciprocate by giving back to the community.

Fundraiser and PRO for the organisation, Gaylene Allen, said that on Mandela Day some of Ethelbert’s older children visited Kloof and Highway SPCA and covered collection tins and made toys for resident kittens and puppies.

They also had an opportunity to treat and interact with the dogs.

“Ethelbert’s children have all experienced some kind of trauma - abuse, severe neglect, or abandonment - some of them have been abandoned more than once.

“ Very much like what the SPCA’s dogs and cats have experienced.

“Interacting with the dogs brought smiles to the children’s faces, showing how the unconditional love and friendship one receives from a dog can touch even the most damaged of hearts,” Allen said
