Choose to deal with it differently

2015-06-24 06:00

READING and listening to so many views, think on a wise sage’s remark: “There is always more than one option.”

With the load shedding in the country, one can choose different ways to deal with it. For example, stock up on candles or oil lamps and buy smaller quantities of food.

Take out your forgotten music instruments and learn to play them again.

Candle-light dinners are so romantic and so peaceful.

What to cook on - a small gas stove of course, one plate will do.

Read your books from the shelves and play board games, which are a favourite with large families.

Get onto that treadmill that is standing as a clothes hanger.

In our domain, we really do not find it a hassle. We carry on and admit that when the bright lights come back on, the atmosphere of the soft candle light is gone. Bathing with candles is also a wonderful experience.

Keep a timetable of the load shedding and prepare beforehand what you need during that time. It works well for us.

What did the people do 100 years ago, how did they manage?

Lastly, we have a fireplace so it does not only give us light and heat, but a lovely atmosphere too.

Unfortunately, for the folk who had no electricity for four days, that’s another story.
