THE non-profit organisation, Africa Cares for Life recently presented its Equipped to Serve course to empower those involved in counselling.

“Equipped to Serve is a learning experience designed to equip those wanting to care for hurting people and those going through a crisis.

“The programme teaches specific skills required to care for people in crisis, such as the qualities of an effective helper, communication skills and how to climb the steps to crisis intervention,” said Daniele Gradwell, ETS trainer.

The programme is interactive and makes use of experiential learning exercises and role plays to equip those wanting to help people in crisis.

“I have been teaching this programme for 10 years and have always received positive feedback on the learning material and experience,” she said.

The course was attended by members of the public, counsellors and social workers. They commented on what the course meant to them:

“I learnt how special it is to be a good listener. The seven fundamentals taught me to be a good listener and to be patient with God’s people.

“The course helped me realise that I do not have all the answers to solve problems, but [I] can help others. The facilitator is knowledgeable, insightful and has shared her wealth of experience. Keep up the good work – we really need such training.”

“I enjoyed all aspects of this training – our journey with you will continue.”

“Excellent facilitation and training – good role plays and case studies.”

Those interested in the ETS course can contact Africa Cares for Life on 031 903 2340.
