THE Lifesaving KZN South competition season got under way on Sunday, 11 October at the Umhlanga Surf Lifesaving Club. This was the first of a three series competition held leading up to the Lifesaving SA National Senior and Junior Championships in April 2016 that will be held at Port Elizabeth on 17 to 20 March, 2016.

Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Clubs’ Demi Mason claimed the first spot in the women’s open beach flags and a second place in the beach sprint.

Top competitors will be in action at the three local clubs so make a note to see the athletes in action on the beaches. The KZN Junior Championships will be held at Winklespruit Surf on 31 January, 2016, KZN South Junior and Senior champs on 21 February, 2016 at Warnadoone and KZN Championships – Open (seniors) at Amanzimtpti Surf on 5 to 6 March, 2016.

KZN Nipper Champs will be hosted by Marine Surf on Addington Beach from 6 to 7 February, 2016.

The 2015/16 National Nipper Championship at Addington Beach is from 31 March – 2 April, 2016 where club and provincial team competitors between the ages of nine and 14 will compete in surf and beach events.

Parents are again reminded to bring children under 14 to the local clubs on Sundays and be part of the fun in the sun, learn swimming and surf skills and compete in the Nipper events.

For over 14 year old youngsters, local clubs train junior lifesavers and over 16 year olds can join in the training to receive the lifesaving award.

Speak to your local club chairman or club captain to be part of the lifesaving community.

Remember, “the finest thing that a man can do is to save the life of a fellow being". - Supplied.
