AN 85-year-old woman’s wish was granted when she was taken to the Amanzimtoti beach this week.

Martie van Staden used to live in Amanzimtoti and loved going to the beach, but nine years ago, frail and in need of care, Martie had no choice but to move to the Flame Lily Park care home in Queensburgh.

However, Martie had just one wish - to look at the ocean again, but an unsuccessful back operation confined her to bed and so for all those years she longed to look at the waves and smell the sea breeze.

Determined to fulfill her motherand#039;s wish, Martie’s daughter Magda Snowdon, got in touch with East Coast Radioand#039;s Damon Beard.

“Itand#039;s nothing fancy,” Snowdon told Beard on-air during “The Big Favour” on Tuesday, 12 May.

“She just wants to go back and look at the sea then go back to the home.”

Beard roped in Netcare 911 to help make Martie’s dream come true. On Thursday, 14 May, the Netcare 911 team fetched her from the home and took her to Toti beach by ambulance. There she was served tea on the sand while looking out to sea.

“This is something most of us take for granted every single day,” said Beard.
