LOUISE Verrips is the owner of Armani Day spa.

Tania Sandberg spoke to her about her business ahead of Women’s Day:• TS: When did you start your business?

LV: Armani Day Spa opened officially in December 2009.

• TS: What do you think has made your business the success it is today?

LV: Hard work, passion, persistence, a lot of sacrifices and endless support from my family – without them, my business would not be half the success that it is today

• TS: What is required to run a business in your industry successfully?

LV: In my opinion, the spa industry is extremely “competitive” in a sense that everyone has the idea that running a spa or salon is easy, therefore we constantly have to “compete” with spas or salons that use cheaper brand products and are able to ask less per treatment.

With that said, I can honestly say that Armani uses some of the best products and brands to ensure that all our services are of high quality, which sets us apart. We have also ensured we have successfully operated and expanded into extra treatment rooms, lounge area, our patisserie, little boutique and most recently our cookery classes for little ones over the past six years. With us constantly adding new additions and our dependable quality of treatments, we have built up good relationships with our regulars, as well as the hotel and guesthouse industry.

• TS: Did you have any unique challenges as a woman in business?

LV: I am sure that every person, male or female, will at some point, have challenges in their business due to their gender, but due to my mom and dad being such a huge influence on how I look at business, they taught me to rather look for the opportunities that those around you are missing because of being stuck on the challenge ahead. See each challenge as an opportunity to grow as a person and if possible make a difference in your community and surrounds. What you put out into the world and how you use each obstacle as an opportunity to better yourself through helping others, will be returned to you in kind.

• TS: What is your life philosophy?

LV: Never let money or greed be your drive, be passionate about what you do, work hard and you will be rewarded.

• TS: What are your future plans for your business?

LV: Who knows what will come next, but I can say we are busy with a few community projects, which keep me quite occupied, one of which is the Christmas WonderBox. We are also planning on having a fresh food and product market
