South Coast excels in golf tournament

LAST weekend 200 women from golf clubs around the province travelled to Empangeni Country Club to take part in the 63rd KZN Ladies Golf Association Inter-club Tournament.

Various clubs from around the province get the opportunity to host this annual prestigious championship, and it is a much anticipated fixture on the KwaZulu-Natal ladies golfing calendar.

The South Coast region was well represented and proved to be the teams to beat as Port Shepstone won the gold division, Amanzimtoti the silver division and Margate the bronze division. Maureen Ogilvie from Margate Country Club played in her 40th inter-club, an amazing feat especially as she was one of the trophy winners.


Gold division gross and nett winner - Lizzie Currie and Kim Strauss from Port Shepstone.

Gold division gross and nett runner up - Bronwyn Rae and Vanessa Colby from Mount Edgecombe.

Silver division gross and nett winner - Jacqui Porrill and Charmaine Stone from Amanzimtoti.

Silver division gross runner-up - Liz Donald and Thanda Zama from Amanzimtoti, Jean Whitfield and Lydia Muhl from Durban Country Club, Carol Hubert and Sally Nienaber­ from Mount Edgecombe.

Silver division nett runner-up - Hilary­ O’Reilly and Tanya Adams from Mount Edgecombe.

Bronze division trophy winner - Maureen Ogilvie and Sandi Johnston from Margate.

Bronze division runner-up - Annie Stoppel and Cecelia Verster from Port Shepstone.

Bronze division third place - Karen­ Bridgeford and Irene Schanda from Southbroom.

Bronze division fourth place - Alex Morris and Mandy Jones from Scottburgh.

Congratulations to the host club, Empangeni, for the hard work that went into ensuring that the golf course was in such a good condition, especially as Zululand has not had much rain.

Next year inter-club returns to the South Coast with Selborne Country Club hosting the championship.
