Swine flu is like any other flu

2015-06-03 06:00

THERE is no need to panic at the mention of swine flu, says Amanzimtoti GP Dr Tarryn Brown.

“Swine flu is just a flu. It is not necessarily worse than any other strain.

“We saw it last year, but it was just not called by this name,” Brown said.

She added that the flu vaccine works against three strains of flu and includes swine flu, so it is still worth getting the vaccination even though it is late in the year.

“Flu normally comes on very suddenly. The symptoms for swine flu are high fever, body ache, headache, coughing and sometimes vomiting and diarrhoea.”

Should you have these symptoms, it is worth getting tested as one has to take the medication within 24 hours
