THIS year the Royal Show notched up excitement at the KFC River Stage with the first Royal Show-Stoppers talent competition. Featuring singing and dance categories, the Royal Show-Stoppers was open to all ages from 8 to 30 from all parts of KZN.

Up-and-coming Amanzimtoti starlet Alaska Hilton entered the Durban region prelim auditions at the Royal Natal Yacht Club on 24 May and judged by a panel of three judges. Alaska was selected to go through to the finals at the KFC River Stage on Saturday 30 May at the Royal Show in Pietermaritzburg.

Belting out Two Black Cadillacs in front of a fairly large, lively audience and in front of judges Evan Roberts and Marion Louden, both from musical acclaim, Alaska secured third place against tough competition.

Louden praised her performance and said she has the look, has a very powerful and mature voice, sings great, engages with the audience and can look forward to a great future ahead of her in her singing career.

The next stop now for Alaska will be Talent America in New York from 5 July where she will be representing South Africa. - Supplied
