Western Cape is not paradise

2015-06-10 06:00

MANY South Africans think that the Western Cape is a paradise. That is the wrong message because for some or other reason South Africans are not informed about what is going wrong there.

We live in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. This gives us the opportunity of watching the sittings of the Western Cape parliament every week on DStv, channel 408.

By doing so for the past six years, we have learnt that South Africans are not informed about all the complaints and accusations made by opposition parties in the Western Cape against the DA.

We have a cousin in Somerset West who works in Cape Town. She drives on the N1 highway to her job every day. Over the past six years, she came across several protests against poor service delivery on this road which never reached South Africans in Limpopo, Mpumalanga. Gauteng, Free State, North West, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Between 6 and 12 April there were two robberies in the Mossel Bay region alone that never reached all South Africans.

Recently a golf club was robbed and a woman was also robbed last week on Diaz Strand, Mossel Bay.

About five weeks ago, an OK Minimarket worker at Hartenbos, also in the Western Cape, was hijacked shortly after he closed the shop at about 9.30pm on a Saturday. The four robbers pulled him off the road and with a firearm to his head, they forced him into the boot of their car and took him back to the shop to give them all the money.

Some time ago a woman was murdered on their farm near Mossel Bay. A few weeks ago a farmer was murdered on his farm near Francshoek.

Every time we have complaints about the DA, some people think that we have to be ANC supporters - that is not the case, we could be from other opposition parties.
