SAPPHIRE Coast Tourism wish to remind registered members to get their rates rebate application forms stamped at the tourism office for submission as soon as possible, before the municipal financial year end, June 2016.

This is one of the benefits afforded to registered members of your local Community Tourism Organisation, of which there are nine regions within the eThekwini Municipality. All you need is an accommodation license issued from Business Licensing in Winklespruit, a food licence, which is issued simultaneously if you serve breakfast, and public liability insurance, to get registered. A guideline to follow is given to applicants at the business licence desk.

Establishments up to four rooms earn a 50% rates rebate and five to nine rooms earn a 25% rebate. Establishments providing extra amenities such as a restaurant, conference facility and a salon to name a few are regrettably disqualified for rebate.

Further good news is that small households that offer a spare room short-term for pocket money do so without it being deemed a commercial operation by the revenue department.
However, owners would need to be audited for hospitality compliance when registering with their local CTO. No rates rebates are applicable in this instance.

Durban Tourism is hosting a complimentary networking session at Toti Golf Club this Friday 15 January from 10am until 3pm, and invites everybody in the hospitality sector and people who are thinking about registering or may be experiencing difficulty with registering, to make use of this valuable opportunity to get themselves heard and assisted.
