2018 WILL be the fifth edition of The Giant’s Cup and make note that the race is capped at 100 runners, so make sure you enter as soon as possible. Entries are currently open but they close on April 20.

Runners will enjoy 62 km of beautiful mountain trails and recover and relax afterwards in the comfort of the three resorts along the route.

The principle beneficiary of The Giant’s Cup is the local branch of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) based at Cobham Nature Reserve.

R500 per runner will be dedicated to this cause that will focus on local issues within the Maloti Drakensberg Park. These include alien vegetation, maintenance of the trails, funding of vital equipment for EKZNW staff and assistance with monitoring of critically endangered species such as the bearded vulture.

Day 1 starts from the Premier Resort Sani Pass and incorporates the Gxalingenwa Trail and days 1-3 of the Giant’s Cup Hiking Trail. Day 1 finishes at Castleburn Farm on the Drakensberg Gardens road. The total running distance is 32 km.

Athletes will stay overnight at the Drakensberg Gardens Golf & Spa Resort, in hotel accommodation on a room sharing basis.

Day 2 starts from Castleburn Farm, and incorporates days 4 and 5 of the Giant’s Cup Hiking Trail. Day 2 finishes at the Bushman’s Nek Resort. The total running distance is 30 km. The final night of the race will be at the Bushman’s Nek Resort, in hotel accommodation on a room sharing basis, and includes the Awards Dinner and festivities. More information can be found at
