Court officials act in goodwill

2018-01-17 06:02

AMANZIMTOTI Magistrate Court officials acted in the true spirit of Christmas during the festive season when they assisted a woman, accused of damaging property in a shop, to return to her home in the Eastern Cape.

The accused appeared to have a health problem and acting in goodwill, control prosecutor, Ningi Mhlongo, phoned the mother of the accused and asked her to come and assist her daughter.

Mhlongo then also called the complainant, who came to see the accused at the SAPS cells.

The complainant, having seen the accused, decided not to press charges. She said she did not want to be refunded the money for the damaged property, but asked that the accused’s mother rather use the money for her child’s health.

Magistrate Charlotte Dickinson thanked prosecutors at court who kept updating her of the whereabouts of the accused’s mother as she made her way to Amanzimtoti from the Eastern Cape, and all the prosecutors, especially Brian Cele, then assisted by taking the accused and her mother to the taxi rank and assisting them to get back safely to the Eastern Cape.
