UMZINTO K9 unit members were patrolling in their area on 2 January at about 1.40pm when they followed up information about drugs in cottages at Umkomaas.

“The K9 unit members searched the cottages and a 27-year-old woman was found in possession of 200 straws of heroin. She was also found in possession of R3 393 suspected to be money she got through dealing in drugs,” SAPS KwaZulu-Natal: Media Centre, Major Thulani Zwane reported.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of drugs and appeared in the Scottsburgh Magistrate’s Court on 4 January.

The members proceeded to another cottage in the area, searched it and a further 619 straws of heroin were found. A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. He also appeared in the Scottsburgh Magistrate’s Court on 4 January.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni thanked the members for a job well done during this festive season.
“I also thank members of the community who provided valuable information that led to the arrest and recovery of drugs. We will continue to with our zero tolerance [campaign] in getting rid of drugs in our province.” - Supplied.
