A WONDERFUL 90th birthday party was held at Umbogavango to celebrate WESSA’s historic landmark. Organised by the South Coast branch of WESSA, some 40 members and their guests travelled from Durban and the North and South Coast to spend a morning walking through the reserve, sharing experiences, watching presentations about the educational programme being organised through the educational centre and learning new information portals about WESSA being developed at regional and national levels.

The latter developments were highlighted by regional chair Pieter Burger who encouraged the various organisations present to work together on local environmental programmes.

“Whatever our affiliations there is so much we can achieve together.”
Local WESSA chairman, Chris Skinner, said that already this year more than 30 school parties, consisting of Grades 4 to Grade 7 pupils from rural primary schools in the Amanzimtoti area had visited the educational resource centre.
“That represents more than 1 200 children and close on 40 teachers,” he said.

WESSA will officially celebrate its birthday in the Kruger National Park in September where the association was established in the twenties. - Supplied.
